Paradigms, models, scenarios and practices in terms of strong sustainability
Bien que la notion de durabilité continue d'être associée au rapport Brundtland (1987) et au concept de développement durable, une communauté de chercheurs et de praticiens de la durabilité cherche de plus en plus à émanciper le concept pour être en accord avec les connaissances et les aspirations du moment. L'enthousiasme et les attentes à l'égard d'une plus grande durabilité vont au-delà des simples questions environnementales. Ils abordent également des questions sociales cruciales. Les communications du symposium visent à remettre en question les paradigmes, les modèles, les scénarios et les pratiques qui incarnent la durabilité. On peut se demander quel sens donner à l'idée même de durabilité et aux représentations qu'elle véhicule.

Topical Issue of "Open Economics" Journal
This topical issue of Open Economics invites submissions that explore both qualitatively and quantitatively how various cities have developed into global hubs of economic activity both historically and contemporaneously. The theoretical and methodological focus of this issue is the application of comparative methods for the purpose of analyzing economic systems in terms that go beyond neo-classical assumptions of economic theory found in conventional macro and micro economics. This also connects to the scholarly discourse on the varieties of capitalism or modernity as a perspective expected to be instructive for considering the preconditions for and effects of the rise of global financial and economic centers, such as London, New York and Hong Kong historically and Singapore, Tokyo and Shanghai more recently.

The Paradigmatic City: Origins, Avatars, Frontiers
Ao longo da história da civilização, as cidades oferecem-nos paradigmas. Elas personificam formas ideais de vida social; surgem como capitais de impérios, mas também como centros de uma identidade nacional, cultural e religiosa; são focos de desenvolvimento económico e político. Todas estas formas se revestem de particular interesse para este congresso. Muitas cidades podem ser consideradas paradigmáticas: Atenas ou Roma, na Antiguidade Clássica; Veneza e Florença, como reflexo das dinâmicas transformações do Renascimento; Londres, Paris e Berlim, como capitais da Modernidade; Nova Iorque, Rio de Janeiro, Tóquio ou Xangai, como epítomes das novas metrópoles em franco crescimento.

Migrinter research lab at the University of Poitiers, in cooperation with the Integrim program – Marie Curie Actions, and Mobglob, invite scholars working on international migrations and local governance in the Global North and the Global South to share their on-going research works. Ecoquartiers – Quartiers verts : Où en est-on en Grèce ?
La vitesse de la conception et la mise en place des écoquartiers est aujourd’hui sans précédant ! Le développement durable trouve enfin son application opérationnelle idéale sur l’espace. Les thématiques et les options sont variées et extrêmement intéressantes : modes de déplacement alternatifs, circulation bien limitée des voitures privées, bâtiments basse consommation, ou bâtiments à énergie zéro ou positive, utilisation des eaux pluviales, matériaux écologiques, mixité sociale et urbaine, combinaison avec le logement social, promotion de modes de vie durables en général... Les écoquartiers sont partout de projets urbains exemplaires, promus par leurs communautés en tant que « vitrines» de savoir-faire technique et d’action durable, mais aussi en tant qu'outils de communication tant au niveau national que international. -

« Building the urban future and Transit Oriented Development (BUFTOD). Rail and other modes, connecting with urban and regional development », an international scientific and operational conference on TOD. The BUFTOD conference is a dedicated arena for the debate on TOD, allowing the crossing of scientific disciplines and the associated approaches, exchanging on cases studies at the international level (in Europe, Americas, Asia ...). The BUFTOD 2012 conference will explore the role of rail and other transport modes in transit oriented development and the connection with spatial development at the urban and regional scales. -
