History and polemics: historiographical debates and the public space
Ever since history became an academic knowledge, historiographical debates have been exceptional moments of construction, condensation and dissensus, often resulting in historiographical turns. Controversies around specific themes have divided entire fields of knowledge production, bringing into light different, often contrasting conceptions, methodologies and practices of historical knowledge. Such debates were, at the same time, moments in which the description and interpretation of the past represented a public intervention in the present, in which the defense of a certain way of making sense of history was also a way of taking of sides in a specific contemporary political discussion. Historiographical polemics were therefore moments in which historiographical knowledge had to confront in the public space other approaches to the past, thus making visible, and challenging, the paradigms that rule the historical discipline and public history.

The aim and scope of the special session: Academic mobility’s impact in hosting cities and regions is often overlooked as it is perceived as being episodic, with a limited and temporary effect. Against this background, this special session aims to unpack the long-lasting influence of academic mobility in urban metabolism and regeneration processes. From larger to smaller cities and universities, how can we make use of the principles of a circular economy to understand the effects, strengths and limits of academic mobility in regional development? As academic mobility is increasing worldwide, this special session looks at the particular challenges it raises for a sustainable future.

Social networks occupy today an unprecedented centrality in developed societies. They are one of the most important components in the structure of social relations between people and organizations, through which they share values, expectations, interests and an immensity of flows that place them at a high level of complexity. Knowing and understanding this complexity, as well as the social networks and the multiplicity of configurations that are inherent to them, is one of the biggest challenges of our times. Today, talking about social networks, puts us on a new paradigm in the social sciences. In the dynamics of social relations, the actors involved in it, develop their interactions driven by diverse logics and strategies of action, putting challenges in their analysis and understanding to social intervenors and the academic community. It is in this context that the 2nd edition of CIReS.

En 2018, nous organiserons la 9e édition d'une conférence qui devient une référence dans le domaine de la recherche cinématographique.La conférence Avanca | Cinema est un point de rencontre pour les chercheurs qui ont l'intention de diffuser et de partager leurs recherches académiques. Première conférence scientifique organisée dans le cadre d'un festival de cinéma, Avanca | Cinema et le 22e Festival Avanca 2018 offrent une atmosphère unique et un programme diversifié, qui passe par l'offre de séances de cinéma, d'ateliers, de présentations de livres, de tables rondes, de séances plénières et d'événements parallèles (de la gastronomie à l'espace de concerts).Cinq jours de cinéma et de pure fête ... dans les regards qui se croisent à Avanca, au Portugal et en plein été.

The CIDEHUS (Interdisciplinary Center of History, Cultures and Societies of University of Évora) is opening the call for 1 research fellowship (starting Grant, “Bolsa de Cientista Convidado”) in the field of Library and Information Science / Digital Humanities, within the framework of UID/HIS/00057/2013 Project, with financial support from FCT/MEC (through national funds, eventually co-financed by FEDER (PT2020 Partnership agreement).
