History and polemics: historiographical debates and the public space

Ever since history became an academic knowledge, historiographical debates have been exceptional moments of construction, condensation and dissensus, often resulting in historiographical turns. Controversies around specific themes have divided entire fields of knowledge production, bringing into light different, often contrasting conceptions, methodologies and practices of historical knowledge. Such debates were, at the same time, moments in which the description and interpretation of the past represented a public intervention in the present, in which the defense of a certain way of making sense of history was also a way of taking of sides in a specific contemporary political discussion. Historiographical polemics were therefore moments in which historiographical knowledge had to confront in the public space other approaches to the past, thus making visible, and challenging, the paradigms that rule the historical discipline and public history.

O seminário-workshop Agentes e Práticas Regulatórias na Economia e na Sociedade (Sécs. XIX–XX): paisagens, perspectivas e debates resulta da colaboração entre o Lab2PT UM, o IHC NOVA FCSH e o GHES ULisboa com o objetivo de historicizar as práticas regulatórias, de forma a contribuir para o surgimento de uma História da Regulação. O Seminário-Workshop focará a criação das normas jurídicas que presidem ao conceito de regulação, bem como as realidades práticas e os agentes que representam os Estados na sua aplicação no terreno, seja na área económica ou social, configurando paisagens económicas e sociais.

#MariellePresente - Résistances transnationales

La revue Cahiers sur le Genre et la Diversité, une revue féministe et queer du nord-est du Brésil, invite toutes et tous à soumettre des articles, des essais, des interviews, des journaux de terrain, des rapports d'expériences et d'autres textes pour le numéro spécial « #MariellePresente: Résistances transnationales ». Les textes doivent décrire et analyser les réponses transnationales suite à l'assassinat de la brésilienne Marielle Franco. Elle était une femme noire de la favela, militante politique, féministe et lesbienne. Elle a été assassinée au coin d'une rue à Rio de Janeiro en mars 2018. Étant donné le caractère politique de son assassinat, de nombreuses actions dénonçant le crime ont été organisées dans le monde entier.

A memória nas ciências humanas é, certo, intrinsecamente contígua à pesquisa histórica. Portanto, ela abarca as disciplinas nelas inscritas por meio de diferentes “métodos” e recursos que evoluíram no decorrer dos séculos segundo a relação que se manteve com os diversos suportes materiais e imateriais dessa fonte incomensurável que é a memória. De Sócrates/Platão (maiêutica - questionamentos e memória) e Epicuro (prolepse - repetições e memória) à Freud, Halbwachs, Ferro e Ricoeur, entre tantos outros, a memória é pensada como sendo perceptível dentro de um eixo flexível muitas vezes à beira do esquecimento a despeito de todo rigor acadêmico requerido e da tentativa de apreender esse sistema complexo.

A Revista Âncora - Revista Latino-americana de Jornalismo - lança seu novo dossiê temático que tem como título «Estudos feministas e de gênero em jornalismo: história, metodologia e epistemologia». A trajetória da relação ambígua e potente entre o feminismo e a academia é longa. Dos chamados estudos de mulheres, até a década de 1970, ao campo dos estudos de gêneros, que se intensificaram a partir da década de 1980, a atuação de feministas dentro das universidades provocou tensionamentos em alicerces importantes do que tradicionalmente se entendia por conhecimento válido, assim como o perfil e atributos esperados para caracterizar o então sujeito produtor do saber científico.

The Portuguese Republic after World war I: the Azores, centrality and communications in the North Atlantic

Initially supported by the popular masses, the Portuguese First Republic was marked by social, political and economic instability, and a weak participation in World War I. The period from 1910 to 1926 was characterized by a partisan struggle for power, political and social agitation. Improvements since 1923 were not enough to counteract the growing discontent stimulated by intellectuals; a persecuted Church; an army and civil service without resources and an economically oppressed industry. The coup of May 28, 1926, put an end to this democratic regime starting a new cycle that, despite maintaining the previous political instability, prepared the Estado Novo, under the control of Antonio de Oliveira Salazar, interrupted in April 25, 1974.
