Le séminaire d’histoire de l’Europe du Centre d’histoire de sciences po (CHSP) est pour la deuxième année consécutive dédié à l’étude des musulmans dans les sociétés européennes aux époques moderne et contemporaine. Il s’organise autour du projet ESLAM (European Societies in the Light of Apolitical Muslims) et s’adresse aux chercheurs confirmés, aux jeunes chercheurs et aux étudiants en master en histoire et en sciences sociales.

Les normes interrogées par le handicap

Cette neuvième conférence propose d’interroger la construction de la normalité et, plus globalement, le système de pensée qui structure nos sociétés, selon lequel être « valide » serait la norme, au double sens de la situation la plus répandue et la plus souhaitable. Cette perspective critique entend ainsi mettre en évidence la manière dont nos sociétés sont structurellement construites en référence à cette figure de l’individu valide. Si l’injonction récente à construire des sociétés inclusives semble signaler un tournant radical, qu’en est-il concrètement ? En a-t-on réellement fini avec les représentations tendanciellement négatives, défectives, voire tragiques, du handicap ? Les figures « héroïsées » du handicap, devenues omniprésentes dans l’espace public, ne prolongent-elles pas (en les inversant) ces approches du handicap comme écart à la norme ?

Philosophical, legal and sociological perspectives

The results of good science are supposed to be true everywhere and at any time: replicability is traditionally considered a ground of the epistemic authority of modern science. However, in somecases (especially in biomedical, social and psychological studies), important published scientific findings have failed to replicate. What does this say about scientific practices? What are the causes and significance of this “replicability crisis”? And how should scientific communities, scientific institutions, policy makers and the general public react to it? The workshop will explore these multifaceted issues by combining philosophical, sociological and legal perspectives.

SoLaR asks whether and how non-binding EU instruments are used bynational administrations when implementing EU policies and bynational courts when ruling in cases falling within the scope ofapplication of EU law. Competition Law and Sustainability - Addressing the Broken Links

In the context of a global system of production that is increasingly interconnected and exponentially exercising pressure on the planet and people’s lives, this conference is inspired by the desire to imagine a system of competition law (or beyond competition law) that is fully embedded in the double limit of the planetary boundaries and of social considerations. To achieve this goal, the organizing partners aim to bring together young academics (master’s, PhD, up to four years into tenure track) challenging the status quo with more experienced experts in the areas of competition law and sustainability to rethink competition law and discuss new ways of regulation, interactions between markets, regulators and society and legal enforcement that take into account social and environmental externalities.

We are happy to announce that the seventh annual Graduate Conference in Political Theory is going to be held in Paris on June 6-8, 2019, entitled Crossroads of Critique: Axel Honneth and the Frankfurt School Project. We welcome contributions from graduate students of political theory across the board and intend to accommodate various approaches (analytical, historical, normative, and critical) as well as contributions from related disciplines (philosophy, social theory, etc.). We also aim at geographic diversity, in that we shall try to foster a substantial academic dialogue between young political theorists from Europe and their peers across the world. Over recent years, the Sciences Po Graduate Conference has established itself as one of Europe’s foremost venues for an international exchange of ideas among graduate students in political theory.

Le troisième Symposium on the History of Crime est un forum ouvert aux étudiants pour leur permettre d’explorer les problématiques liées à l’histoire du crime. Ce symposium annuel a vocation à rassembler des doctorants, des docteurs, des étudiants en master ainsi que des enseignants-chercheurs en début de carrière dans un environnement académique accueillant et amical propice à la discussion et au débat. Les deux premières éditions de ce symposium se sont déroulées en Angleterre. La troisième édition réunira à Paris des étudiants venus des États-Unis, d’Angleterre et de France. Nous donnons au Symposium on the History of crime une portée volontairement large et une dimension transdisciplinaire en mêlant des thématiques et des sujets divers. L’objectif est d’encourager les jeunes chercheurs à participer et à présenter, en anglais, leurs recherches sur le crime, l’histoire du crime et le droit pénal.

Contextualizing bankruptcy

Publicity, space and time (Europe, 17th to 19th century)

Although bankruptcy was a rather exceptional situation in the life of a merchant, it has explanatory power for routines of economic stakeholders, for their space of experience and their horizon of expectation. We can therefore use the irregularity of failure as an indicator of regularities. Considering the long, non-uniform and unsteady transition from merchant capitalism to industrial and financial capitalism, we suggest to start a dialogue between modernistes and contemporanéistes. The workshop focuses on the various forms of contextualizing business failure and puts forward three major research axes: Covering and Uncovering: Secrecy and Publicity; Economic Space and Area of Jurisdiction; Temporal Narratives of (In)Solvency.

The right use of the Earth

Knowledge, power and duties within a finite planet

The advent of the Anthropocene concept and Earth system sciences – putting forward upscaled temporalities in the public sphere, the dramatization of warnings on planetary limits and boundaries and on the human impacts of climate change – provide a challenging context for the humanities and social sciences. Cropping up these developments and at the crossroad of world and connected histories, environmental history, human geography and social, political and legal studies, the conference will examine how ideas of a global, unified and limited earth played a role in human reflexivity, and how the “right use” of the Earth as a whole has become, and is increasingly becoming, an object of knowledge making and government practices.
