Mixed Perspectives
Le symposium offrira donc une excellente occasion d'interroger le concept de durabilité au carrefour de nos différentes disciplines et pratiques, afin de mieux comprendre et maîtriser la manière dont il affecte la recherche environnementale lato sensu. L'ambition de ce symposium sera de contribuer à l'émergence d'une « nouvelle discipline scientifique innovante en matière de durabilité » en s'interrogeant sur les abus qui ont pu être faits du concept au cours des quarante dernières années, en réfléchissant aux moyens d'écarter ces abus, en dessinant rigoureusement les contours de la « durabilité environnementale » et en essayant de comprendre comment elle a encore un sens.

Paradigms, models, scenarios and practices in terms of strong sustainability
Bien que la notion de durabilité continue d'être associée au rapport Brundtland (1987) et au concept de développement durable, une communauté de chercheurs et de praticiens de la durabilité cherche de plus en plus à émanciper le concept pour être en accord avec les connaissances et les aspirations du moment. L'enthousiasme et les attentes à l'égard d'une plus grande durabilité vont au-delà des simples questions environnementales. Ils abordent également des questions sociales cruciales. Les communications du symposium visent à remettre en question les paradigmes, les modèles, les scénarios et les pratiques qui incarnent la durabilité. On peut se demander quel sens donner à l'idée même de durabilité et aux représentations qu'elle véhicule.

Life and Mind. Aristotelian themes in contemporary philosophy
Despite the interest in exploring Aristotelian themes in contemporary philosophy, there has been no coordinated attempt to survey or integrate the ways in which Aristotle’s approach to understanding life, mind, and the relation between them might inform and enrich our own. The objective of this workshop is to explore the way in which Aristotelian thought can brought to bear on contemporary research on the much-debated issue of the so-called mind-body problem and on its implications for the conceptualization of notions such as that of organism, animal and human perception and action, human moral agency, and the relation between mind and life.

Dans une perspective interdisciplinaire incluant les neurosciences, la médecine, les sciences humaines et l'art, ce colloque vise à (1) faire progresser et diffuser les connaissances scientifiques sur la façon dont des processus spécifiques du sommeil favorisent la consolidation de la mémoire ; (2) encourager les sciences et les arts à adopter de nouvelles approches relatives à l'importance des rêves et du sommeil ; (3) en faire bénéficier la société en favorisant la prise de conscience des bonnes habitudes de sommeil et de leurs effets sur le bien-être cognitif.

Langage, Cognition, et Créativité
8e Colloque international biennal de l’Association française de Linguistique cognitive (AFLiCo)
Nous encourageons la soumission de contributions sur le rôle que joue la cognition dans la créativité verbale dans des contextes divers (e.g. dans les conversations, dans la rhétorique, dans l’humour, dans la communication interculturelle, dans les arts, etc.). Seront également bienvenus les études sur la créativité dans des gestes, dans la multimodalité, et des études sur le sujet par des approches diverses (e.g. linguistique de corpus, sociolinguistique, psycholinguistique, etc.). Les organisateurs encouragent la soumission de propositions de communication par de jeunes chercheurs. Les communications peuvent se faire en anglais ou en français, et seront de 20 minutes maximum, suivi de 8 minutes de questions.

3rd Paris Conference on Syndrome E
The conference will bring together scientists and scholars from the human, social and brain sciences to bear upon the question of transformation of seemingly ordinary individuals to repetitive agents of extreme violence in groups (Syndrome E). The aim of the upcoming conference is to foster a multidisciplinary approach trying to elucidate the brain mechanisms of this behavior and its collective characteristics, and also to evoke the social, psychological, ethical and juridical aspects. The conference will be a culmination and synthesis of three years of studies and discussions and will conclude with plans for further actions.

The transformation of groups of previously nonviolent individuals into repetitive killers of defenseless members of society has been a recurring phenomenon throughout history. This apparent transition of large numbers of seemingly normal, “ordinary” individuals, to perpetrators of extreme atrocities is one of the most striking variants of human behavior, but often appear incomprehensible to victims and bystanders and in retrospect even to the perpetrators themselves and to society in general. This transition is characterized by a set of symptoms and signs for which a common syndrome has been proposed, Syndrome E (Fried, Lancet, 1997). The purpose of such designation is not to medicalize this form of human behavior, but to provide a framework for future discussion and multidisciplinary discourse and for potential insights that might lead to early detection and prevention.

Social Factors and Cross-cultural Aspects of Culinary and Eating Behaviors and Practices
9th International Research Symposium - Institut Paul Bocuse
The ninth edition of the Institut Paul Bocuse International Research Symposium aims at sharing the ongoing fundamental and applied research on the Social Factors and Cross-cultural Aspects of Culinary and Eating Behaviors and Practices. A series of talks by international scientists from various disciplines will address the most recent scientific advances in the understanding of: i) the social factors of food behaviors and preferences in various populations, ii) the key factors involved in the evolution and spatial diffusion of cross-cultural aspects of food practices and behaviors. The applied perspectives will be considered as well: R&D experts will discuss how they take the social cross-cultural differences into consideration in the development of new food offers or new services to international clients.

The Brains that Pull the Triggers, a special conference under the auspices of the Paris Institute for Advanced Studies, will bring together scientists and scholars from the human, social and brain sciences along with guests from literature, politics, and law to bear upon this tragic invariant of the human condition.

In this third edition of The Conscious Body meetings, we invite academics and dance / performance makers to explore together the inter-subjective space occupied by the performer and spectator. This one day event will also mark the end of the first phase of the labodanse project (labodanse.org) with Myriam Gourfink. Pour cette troisième édition des rencontres Conscious Body, nous invitons chercheurs et danseurs / performeurs à explorer ensemble l’espace inter-subjectif qu’occupent le performeur et le spectateur. Cette journée marquera également la fin de la première phase du projet Labodanse (labodanse.org) avec Myriam Gourfink.

Variables exo-lexicales dans le traitement morphologique monolingue et bilingue
Exo-lexical variables in monolingual and bilingual morphological processing. Dates : 9 et 11 février 2012. Workshop dans le cadre de l'IMM15 (International Morphology Meeting), 9-12 février 2012, Vienne (Autriche). The question of how the lexicon is organized in terms of structural units and how these units interact with each other during lexical access and subsequently during morphological processing, has been a controversial field for a long time. The morpheme versus lexeme problem is still unsolved, but several pieces of psycholinguistic evidence have come to corroborate the hypothesis according to which the locus of morphological effects is not situated exclusively inside the lexical unit but should be extended to its environment. In fact, one of the difficulties of the study of morphology for alphabetic languages is that not only morphology is correlated with semantic, orthographic and phonological factors, but also that stems and inflected or derived words exist as free word-forms, entertaining different interrelations. -

Fictions, immersions et univers virtuels
Ces colloques et recherches qui lui sont associées ont pour objectifs de clarifier les rapports entre trois situations d’immersion : 1) l’immersion du sujet en situation réelle, 2) l’immersion du sujet (lecteur ou spectateur) en situation fictionnelle, 3) l’immersion du sujet en situation virtuelle. Plus précisément, ce sont les situations d’interactions entre ces trois sortes d’univers qui seront abordées car chacun désormais ne peut se concevoir de façon autonome. Mais ce seront aussi les modalités des entrées et sorties entre situation immersive et situation non immersive qu’il faudra envisager pour chacun de ces modes d’immersion. -

Les études sur les amalgames lexicaux (plus connus sous la dénomination de « mot-valise ») se sont renouvelées depuis les années 1990 en investissant de nombreux champs de la linguistique (phonologie, psycholinguistique, linguistique cognitive, linguistique informatique) et en s'ouvrant à des langues typologiquement variées. Ce colloque organisé par le Centre de Recherche en Terminologie et Traduction (CRTT) de l'université Lyon 2 rassemble une trentaine de communicants de tous horizons et se veut d'abord un forum d'échangeset de débats. Les communications programmées font la part belle à l'analyse de l'amalgamation lexicale dans des langues encore peu étudiées (le polonais, le slovaque, l'ukrainien, le serbe, le grec moderne, le farsi, le mandarin, le coréen), aux comparaisonsinterlangues et aux questions théoriques soulevées par ces objets morphologiques singuliers. -

Les femmes témoins de l’histoire
La première journée d’étude consacrée à l’écriture de l’histoire au début de l’époque moderne en France et en Angleterre (6 juin 2009) a montré que l’activité des femmes dans les genres historiques dominants que sont la chronique, l’historiographie officielle, l’histoire religieuse, l’histoire politique est à la fois ponctuelle et discontinue. Cependant, même si les femmes n’écrivent pas l’histoire comme les hommes, leur présence sur la scène de l’histoire, ou au contact de ceux qui la font, les autorise à livrer des récits précis sur le passé proche. Ces spectatrices engagées, prêtes à souffrir au nom de la vérité qu’elles décrivent, sont les auteurs d’importants témoignages que cette seconde journée voudrait examiner.
