Silence(d): Illusory Absences and Denied Presences

The doctoral conference Silence(d): Illusory Absences and Denied Presences aims to stimulate reflection on silence not only as the absence of voice or sound, but as a device that structures narratives, archives, memories, and processes of knowledge production.

    Living together in the Absurd

Making sense when the world doesn’t make sense

According to Camus, the world we live in is absurd. While this can become manifest to us in nearly any situation, Camus is adamant that the world’s absurdity is not owing to any specific features. Rather, it is intrinsically relational and results from the unresolvable tension of two elements : the unbridgeable hiatus between a reason that seeks understanding and a world that remains strictly irrational. If it is our understanding that opens up the world for us, at the same time, the world irrevocably resists being fully grasped. The absurdity thus creates a human desire for clarity that will never see its fulfilment.

“Angelaki: Journal of the Theoretical Humanities”, special issue (33.5)

This special issue of Angelaki: New Work in the Theoretical Humanities - book series invites contributions that revisit the concept of khôra, introduced in Plato’s Timaeus as a “third kind” beyond being and becoming, a matrix, a receptacle, and reinterpreted in contemporary philosophy, most notably by Derrida. Situated between presence and absence, intelligibility and materiality, khôra resists stable categorization while remaining indispensable for thinking space, inscription, and receptivity. We seek papers that engage khôra across disciplines, exploring its implications for spatial theory, media, politics, ecology, and aesthetics, as well as its limits and possible reconfigurations today.

    Living together in the Absurd

Making sense when the world doesn’t make sense

The aim of the workshop is to address this question by bringing together different perspectives from philosophy, psychology, and psychiatry on existentialism and the Absurd. It explores how reflecting on the Absurd may disrupt and challenge contemporary debates on self, world, and others but also significantly inform approaches in social philosophy, political philosophy, ethics, and psychotherapy.

Qualitative research: developing a psychology of and for world making

In the context of contemporary crises, whether political, ecological, health, social or economic, the world is undergoing radical transformation. Qualitative research is capable of both describing and understanding these upheavals ; however, it also, to a greater or lesser extent, participates in the transformation of the world. The current crises, and the profound transformations they are bringing about, therefore invite psychology to fully embrace qualitative research “of and for world-making”. In other words, it is vital to fully develop the potential for change offered by qualitative research to help us live in a more just and equitable world.

Qualitative research: developing a psychology of and for world making

3rd conference of the Association of European Qualitative Researchers in Psychology

The call for abstracts for the 3rd conference of the Association of European Qualitative Researchers in Psychology, to be held at the University Lumière Lyon 2 in Lyon, France, from 8 to 10 July 2026 is now open. Following the association's inaugural conference, which sought to create bridges among qualitative researchers in psychology across Europe - bridges between researchers from different European countries but also bridges between different research traditions of qualitative inquiry in psychology. We propose to explore how qualitative research can contribute to the development of a psychology of and for world-making.

The Zeitgeist in Toys & Games

The overarching theme for the 10th ITRA World Conference is The Zeitgeist in Toys & Games is designed to decipher and understand the many ways toys and games have shaped and reflected who we are, and have changed throughout history. Looking at the past, present, and future of playthings, the question is not so much what the zeitgeist in toys and games should be – but rather how and what they contribute to the multiple and potentially conflicting constellations of ideas, values and norms that come to characterize particular epochs.

    Haunting(s): Multidisciplinary Approaches

The complexity of haunting lies in its ability to encapsulate the interplay between the seen and unseen, the tangible and intangible, inviting scholars to unravel its intricacies and understand its implications across diverse facets of human experience. This two-day conference aims to bring together a diverse range of global researchers in any discipline whose works draws upon ‘haunting’ in some capacity, to facilitate cross-disciplinary discussions and establish a network of scholars working at the forefront of research in this area. We invite expressions of interest from anyone whose research engages with any aspect of haunting and is working in literature, philosophy, history, cultural and media studies, music, modern languages, sociology, and others.

Language, end of life, death and bereavement: an interdisciplinary perspective

Workhop - Languages and Language at the Crossroads of Disciplines (LLcD) conference

The workshop aims to initiate an interdisciplinary discussion by convening linguists along with scholars from other disciplines with an interest in language, such as philosophy or psychology, who share a common interest in end-of-life, death and bereavement issues. It will be informed by the following research questions: what are the linguistic representations of death and end of life? What are the similarities and differences between healthcare practitioners, patients and (bereaved) relatives in terms of their representation of death and end of life? To what extent can health care practitioners’ communication practices impact the process of bereavement? What linguistic resources can be put in place to avoid the silence that surrounds death-related topics?

    Événements, ruptures, durées

    Revue « Chiasmi International » n°27
