Decolonizing Museum Cultures and Collections: Mapping Theory and Practice in East-Central Europe
International conference for heritage scholars and practitioners
This conference brings together curators, artists, scholars, and other intellectuals and cultural activists working on East-Central European heritage, to reflect on how the main trends of decolonial debate are intersecting in practical and theoretical terms with the heritage sector, with a particular focus on museums in the region. The conference will place special emphasis on mapping both the range of colonial histories embedded in, as well as decolonial approaches to, museum collections and practices in East-Central Europe.

The ultimate purpose of the International Congress on Desert Economy – Dakhla, is to be a scientific and multidisciplinary platform on desert and Sahara economy development, in order to contribute effectively to the good governance and in the sustainable development of desert regions, by stimulating meetings between all stakeholders on a global scale, with a view to fostering cooperation and partnership, among (Sahara) desert countries (Africa, the Gulf States, the United States of America, China, Australia...), with the aim of creating a conducive environment to the exchange of experiences, expertise and innovation, around themes related to desert and Sahara economy development, such as: Tourism and travel industry, agriculture, renewable energy, raw materials, transportation and logistics, sea and ocean economy, technology and innovation, entertainment and sport economy, cultural and intangible heritage, nature and environment.

Activating Heritage of International Solidarity
Romero: Memory. Activating Heritage of International Solidarity ((KU Leuven, 4-10 November 2019) is a one-week multidisciplinary academy for scholars, activists, writers, journalists, etc. centered around the legacy of the Salvadoran archbishop Oscar Romero (1917-1980), his significance for the solidarity movement with El Salvador and Latin America and his impact and imprint on the works, actions and ideas of people, communities and societies in the present as well as in the past.

A vector of sustainable development?
The objective of the conference is to analyze the effect of tourism, questioning more specifically in this second edition its potential for becoming a vector of sustainable development, understood in its more general sense. Within this framework, we will question its economic impact, as well as its social effects, on Indonesia and Southern countries. We are interested in knowing how extra income is redistributed to the local population and whether it affects, or on the contrary, strengthens the traditional organizations of the communities, bringing new actors, investors, decision-makers in the traditional social organization.

The time has come to give due recognition to there scaling processes affecting heritage and tourism destinations, intended both as upscaling and downscaling. Rescaling heritage andtourism destinations can be seen as both a strategy pursued by national and regional agencies, or as unintended consequences of the constant interplay between an increasingly complex array of stakeholders, including cross-national institutions and local communities.

Palácios e dinâmicas urbanas: centros de poder e de conhecimento na Europa
The European palaces established more than mere residences of monarchs, princes, cardinals, aristocrats and bourgeois. They were centers of power, solid social and political symbols, and also production centers for culture, arts and science. On the other hand, they played a fundamental role by motivating the renovation and expansion of cities. In a broad sense, we can consider the palace as a center that marked not only the inner spaces, but also its surroundings. Starting from this premise and taking the opportunity of the celebrations of the 500th anniversary of the construction of the so called Palácio de D. Manuel in Évora, this is the ideal context for organizing this international conference.

The panel will explore spatial configurations created in these contexts, questioning the forms of modernity expressed by architectural and urban projects. With the purpose of challenging a general assumption according to which Asian and especially Southeast Asian urban landscapes affected by recent developments tend toward irremediable standardization and “Westernization”, the panel will explore local expressions of modernity through the examination of projects pointing to a reinterpretation of forms of local heritages. -

The aim of the COST Action IS1007 Symposium is to give an overview of the policy contextwhere culture meets sustainable development, and of the strategies and processes whichguide culturally sustainable development at local, regional, national and transnational levels.Moreover, during the Symposium the participants will identify and establish “thematicclusters” on various topics of cultural sustainability, which will serve as forums for futurecollaborative work. This seminar presents and provides a space to discuss the key findings and insights from a Canadian-European comparative study of the integration of culture in community sustainability policy and planning in Canada and Europe. The research built on a critical examination of Canada's "four-pillar" model of community sustainability, which attempts to integrate cultural considerations into overall local planning for sustainability. -
