  Seeing Politics through Intermediation and Intermediaries

  This seminar proposes to look at politics through the lens of political intermediaries and what they do, i.e. intermediation. Intermediaries can be defined as an assorted group of actors (political brokers, political parties, interest groups, movements) who acts as a hinge between two or more levels, actors or social institutions; while intermediation , as a process, encompasses all the mediations that these actors perform in order to keep the political system intact (Zaremberg, Guarneros-Meza, and Lavalle 2017; Gunther, Puhle, and Montero 2007; Kitschelt 2004; Smith 2007). The question we are interested in relates to the transformations in the roles of these agents and processes of mediation since the neo-liberal transformation has engulfed the processes of public policy formulation, contestation and enactment.

  The evolving relations between nation-states and Kurdish areas

  What impact on the modes of local governance?

  The departments of contemporary studies of IFEA (Istanbul) and IFPO organize a workshop in Erbil, the 29th of May 2014. This workshop aims at analysing the evolving dynamics of the Kurdish populated areas in Turkey, Iraq, Syria and Iran. More precisely, it will focus on the changing interactions between the nation-states and the Kurdish political actors, and on the impacts of these transformations on the modes of local governance.

  23rd World Congress of Political Science

  Call for Papers of RC 13 Panel. The International Political Science Association will hold its 23^rd World Congress in Montreal, Canada, from July 19 to 24, 2014. The following panel is part of the Research Committee on Democratization in Comparative Perspective panels (RC13). The objective of this panel is to identify the on-going tendencies and evolutions of party systems inside post-revolutionary countries with the underlying question on their ability to build a democratic system.

  Violence, non-violence et religion

  Troisième conférence sur les relations chrétiens-musulmans

  Bethlehem University, with its tradition of building better relations between Christians and Muslims, according to its values as a Catholic LaSallian Palestinian University, is proposing a conference on Violence and Religion (9-11 February 2011) as a chance to discuss this difficult topic of the relationship between religion and violence. Although the topic may seem vast and complex, the multidisci-plinary approach allows for a better understanding of the topic and an informative exchange among scholars and interested people from all faiths.
