  Theological Foundations of Modern Constitutional Theory: 16th-17th Centuries

  Fondements théologiques de la théorie constitutionnelle moderne : XVIe-XVIIe siècles

  This conference aims to assemble different studies laying bridges between modern constitutional theories and theology from the perspective of intellectual history. Though modernity of law and politics has been usually accounted in the context of Reformation, the paper-givers’ approaches to the question will not be restricted in any confessional perspective, Protestant or Catholic. For, whatever the word ‘theology’ may have connoted in the time of religious confrontations, theoretical attempts to legitimize human rights and political authority at those days can be regarded as part of the general current of philosophical investigations, in a new manner and with different foci than ever, into the concept of justice with reference to that of God.

  The last thirty years have seen the burgeoning of political and academic speeches on the merits of participative or deliberative democracy. In parallel, in occidental democracies, various systems sharing the ambition to strengthen or increase citizen participation through collective discussion on public issues are being institutionalized. These devices are often viewed today as a novel cure to the present crisis of representative governance. This panel, at the crossroads of sociology, history and political science, aims at historicizing such deliberation necessity and at redrawing the genesis of the phenomenon as speech and political practice.

  Groupe d'histoire des organisations internationales (2009-2010)

  Créé en 2008, le Groupe d'histoire des organisations internationales rassemble des spécialistes en sciences sociales et des archivistes travaillant dans des organisations internationales. En ce sens, il constitue un forum unique au monde de rencontres et de discussions sur l'histoire de ces organismes internationaux et sur la question des sources d'archives en leur possession. Pour l'année académique 2009-2010, le Groupe d'histoire des organisations internationales organise une série de conférences où seront traitées différentes thématiques en lien avec l'histoire et les activités des organisations internationales. Ces conférences sont ouvertes à toute personne intéressée.
