  Beyond Borders - Borders, Democracy and Security

  Beyond borders supports research about borders and boundaries in past and present times. It promotes interdisciplinary exchange in the social sciences and humanities. The Call for Applications 2020 is open till January 15, 2021 and focuses on “Borders, Democracy and Security”. The ZEIT-Stiftung offers three types of Ph.D. scholarships: Start Up Scholarships for research project development, Ph.D. Scholarships for up to 3 years and Dissertation Completion Scholarships. We invite applications from Ph.D. students worldwide studying borders and bordering phenomena in different regions of the world. Both empirical research based on extensive fieldwork and projects centered on theoretical reflection are eligible for support. Innovative and challenging research questions as well as comparative approaches are highly welcome.

  Séminaire de l'Institut des sciences de la communication (ISCC) (2016-2017)

  Lancé en 2010, le séminaire de l’ISCC est axé sur les sciences de la communication, les industries et l’ingénierie des connaissances, le développement des controverses et le rôle de l’expertise scientifique, l’épistémologie comparée et, plus largement, les rapports entre sciences, techniques et société. Cette rencontre est ouverte aux chercheurs, enseignants, étudiants, journalistes et professionnels que motivent les enjeux de la communication et vise à affûter les problématiques, à susciter le débat et à développer les échanges interdisciplinaires entre personnalités de formations et d’horizons différents.

  Beyond brain drain

  Skills and Mobility without Methodological Nationalism

  In the late 20^th century, the metaphor of “brain drain” dominated the understanding of skilled labor mobility at a global level. Indebted to methodological nationalism, the metaphor of “brain drain” framed the analysis as if nation-states were the primary, sometime the single, unit of concern: the focus was on how countries are affected by highly-skilled migration, what policies they should adopt, and what obligations do individuals owe to the countries.

  26e séminaire doctoral sur les politiques climatiques

  For thirteen years, the ICP workshops series has been organized semi-annually under the auspices of the informal European PhD Network on International Climate Policy. It offers doctoral candidates the opportunity to present their research ideas and results, receive feedback, and exchange information and assistance in an informal setting. PhD students from all disciplines working on topics relevant to climate policy and environmental economics are invited to submit applications.
