Sport tourism has become the fastest growing sector of the tourism industry and is still thriving. What's more, even if, mega events (Olympic Games, FIFA World Cups) or other largescale events (World Championships in some sports, major tennis tournaments, etc.) had been drawing attention for a long time, it now seems to be obvious that small-scale events carry diverse benefits for their host towns too. The cost of their organization is lower, the required facilities are less expensive to construct and also to maintain after the event, and these can then be used by the local residents.

Competition and solidarity networks in contemporary South Asia's Labour Market

Hegemonic neo-liberal discourse assumes that free competition on all levels sparks a virtuous cycle of economic growth, which eventually trickles down to poor populations. Over the past three decades, the idea that restrictive labour laws hamper such competition has justified the deregulation of labour in the North and the un-regulation of labour in the South, notably in South Asia, where labour relations had already mainly been informal. Various sociologists have noted that intensified economic interactions and the rise of competition have made individuals more likely to activate their social networks to protect their individual interests. In this respect, to what extent do social networks shape relations in the diverse South Asian labour markets? How do new forms of social groupings reconfigure competition and solidarity relations? What forms of social interactions prevail, emerge and weaken in the market: chosen solidarity and inherited solidarity; inter-caste and intra-caste solidarity; class solidarity; corporate solidarity etc.?

The objective of the conference is to analyze the effect of tourism, questioning more specifically in this second edition its potential for becoming a vector of sustainable development, understood in its more general sense. We are interested in knowing how extra income is redistributed to the local population and whether it affects, or on the contrary, strengthens the traditional organizations of the communities, bringing new actors, investors, decision-makers in the traditional social organization.

Le projet Ressources sur le modèle socio-économique européen (RESuME), cofinancé par le programme « ERASMUS+Action Jean Monnet institutions » et l’université du Luxembourg, a pour objectif de contribuer à l’étude du modèle socio-économique européen, de ses origines, de ses caractéristiques actuelles et de son développement à venir. Le projet se concentre sur l’interaction entre la société, les acteurs économiques et les autorités publiques, à travers le prisme de la notion de compétitivité européenne. Il mobilise à ce titre l’histoire contemporaine, le droit, l’économie, les sciences politiques, ainsi que la philosophie politique ou la sociologie. Afin d’éclairer ce sujet, le projet RESuME crée une nouvelle série innovante de contributions scientifiques : les Cahiers de recherche Etat, Société, Marché, Europe (Cahiers RESuME).

The conference will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 8 to 10 September 2015. Papers should focus on Customs or, more globally, the regulation, dynamics, and practices of the international trade of goods. The WCO encourages attendance and paper submissions from anthropologists, economists, geographers, historians, lawyers, and political scientists. The WCO is particularly interested in interdisciplinary approaches regarding contemporary systems of regulation and control at borders.

Enjeux, pratiques et influences des acteurs non-étatiques (XVIIIe-XXIe siècle)

La fin de la guerre froide a été l’occasion de (re)découvrir le poids des acteurs non-étatiques dans une diplomatie de plus en plus mondialisée. Selon Richard Langhorne, c’est avec le Congrès de Vienne de 1961 que s’amorce le processus de déliquescence de la diplomatie classique née au XVII^e siècle dans laquelle seuls les États jouaient véritablement un rôle. Cet affaiblissement progressif des États a conduit à l’effacement des frontières traditionnelles entre ce qui relève de l’action diplomatique officielle et des relations internationales plus informelles, menées en marge des États. Le poids croissant de divers acteurs non-étatiques sur la scène internationale est un signe révélateur de cette transition.

Borderlands studies look beyond the historical facticity of territorial borders by reflecting their porousness and the actual processes of their crossing and maintenance. We invite scholars from anthropology, sociology, human geography, history and related fields working on European borderlands to present their research on everyday practices and experiences of living in a borderland. Papers can be empirical and/or conceptual relating to: dwelling, work and consumption, identity constructions, cross-border suburbanisation and urban/rural relations in borderlands. L'IEA de Paris offre la possibilité aux chercheurs qu’il accueillera à partir d’octobre 2014 ou janvier 2015, de se consacrer entièrement au développement de leur recherche en bénéficiant d’un environnement scientifique de premier plan, et en établissant des réseaux durables avec les institutions universitaires et de recherche à Paris et dans la Région Île-de-France.

The aim of the COST Action IS1007 Symposium is to give an overview of the policy contextwhere culture meets sustainable development, and of the strategies and processes whichguide culturally sustainable development at local, regional, national and transnational levels.Moreover, during the Symposium the participants will identify and establish “thematicclusters” on various topics of cultural sustainability, which will serve as forums for futurecollaborative work. The goal of the COST Action "Investigating Cultural Sustainability" is to increase understanding of and determine the role of culture in sustainable development based on multidisciplinary principles and approaches.
