Délinquances, crimes et répression dans l'histoire

La question de la délinquance, dans l’acception la plus générale du terme, se révèle particulièrement complexe car les criminologues, sociologues, psychologues, psychanalystes, médecins, juristes, historiens qui ont abondamment étudié ce sujet ont émis des opinions souvent très différentes, voire contradictoires. Les difficultés surgissent dès qu’il s’agit de qualifier le phénomène. En droit français, le mot délinquance désigne tous les types d’infractions. Celles-ci se répartissent en trois catégories : les contraventions qui constituent les infractions les plus légères, les délits qui se situent à un niveau intermédiaire et les crimes parmi lesquels on distingue les meurtres, homicides volontaires non prémédités, et les assassinats, homicides volontaires prémédités.

Behaviour, Management and Response

The actual behaviour of individuals and government entities before, during, and immediately after a disaster can dramatically affect the impact, vulnerability, recovery time and resilience. Despite decades of research on disaster risk and perception, studies on actual damages and responses after disasters, decision-making tools, and actionable knowledge of the actual behaviour of the populations are still a challenge. Uncertainty derives from lack of information, lack of trust, alternatives, previous experience, but also segregation, oppression, etc. This conference is addressing the knowledge gap between risk perception, evacuation, response, and adaptation behaviour. It aims to build a multidisciplinary panoramic European view.

Queering Friendship | citizenship, care and choice

Intimate Final Conference

Contrary to individualization theories that suggest the impoverishment of human relationships, theories of relationality recognize the increasing centrality of informal networks of solidarity and care. In this debate, friendship plays a fundamental role. The mutual implications of intimacy and citizenship need to be addressed, exploring the extent to which issues of LGBTQ friendship matter (or not) in being recognized as citizens. The centrality of friendship is even more striking when considering personal lives of trans and non-binary people, but also lesbian women, gay men and bisexual people, LGBTQ migrants and other intersecting, vulnerable groups. In particular, the way transgender people actively provide and receive different care between friends offers invaluable contributions to political debates and conceptual discussions around friendship and care as a key aspect of LGBTQ everyday life. Unveiling the richness of the blurred spaces of intimacy, the ways in which LGBTQ people produce alternatives to family-based forms of cohabitation are also of critical importance. LGBTQ lived experiences further contribute to destabilizing the family/friends and public/private binaries, whilst challenging heterocisnormative expectations about who legitimately belongs to the intimate sphere and who remains excluded and/or invisible.

In Search of Cultural Conformity

The New Integration and Migration Policies in Europe

MAM is a network of scholars from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB) who have been working together for almost ten years on Migrations, Asylum and Multiculturalism (MAM). This research tested the hypothesis that the citizenship regime mutated since the 2000s. While between the 1980s and 2000 integration policies followed the logic of establishing migrants’ rights through the granting of formal status, since the 2000s a new regime of probationary citizenship seems to focus on the principles of merit and of cultural conformity. The results of this research, which includes comparative analyses of the policies, analyses of the their origins and implementation, and analyses of the attitudes of different groups towards the policies, will be put in comparison with the researches of different international experts.

Ce colloque se propose de tenter une théorisation de la notion de spirituel afin d'en faire une catégorie scientifique utilisable dans le champ des sciences humaines. Depuis le poststructuralisme, la théorie, notamment littéraire, est devenue experte en matière d'analyse et de remise en question du soubassement idéologique de tout discours. Toutefois, cette « herméneutique du soupçon » (Ricoeur, 1975) se trouve démunie lorsqu'il s'agit d'élaborer une herméneutique « instauratrice de sens » (Ricoeur, 1965) permettant de penser l'humain au-delà de sa matérialité.

The ninth edition of the Institut Paul Bocuse International Research Symposium aims at sharing the ongoing fundamental and applied research on the Social Factors and Cross-cultural Aspects of Culinary and Eating Behaviors and Practices. A series of talks by international scientists from various disciplines will address the most recent scientific advances in the understanding of: i) the social factors of food behaviors and preferences in various populations, ii) the key factors involved in the evolution and spatial diffusion of cross-cultural aspects of food practices and behaviors. This trans-disciplinary research project is interested in exploring the complex and fluid relationships between hope and trust, and how might betrayal play a productive role in this bond. As concepts, ideas or simple notions, hope and trust seem to have simultaneously lost contemporary currency while being ever more necessary in our every day lives. We seem resigned to a kind of hopelessness, seem unwilling to trust others and are ready and willing to betray whomever we might need to in order to advance our own careers or personal agendas. Yet new technologies require us to place personal information online, to communicate with strangers, and to hold onto the promise of happiness. How are our maintenance of hope, our need to trust and our willingness to betray intertwined? How are these concepts evolving?
