History and polemics: historiographical debates and the public space
Ever since history became an academic knowledge, historiographical debates have been exceptional moments of construction, condensation and dissensus, often resulting in historiographical turns. Controversies around specific themes have divided entire fields of knowledge production, bringing into light different, often contrasting conceptions, methodologies and practices of historical knowledge. Such debates were, at the same time, moments in which the description and interpretation of the past represented a public intervention in the present, in which the defense of a certain way of making sense of history was also a way of taking of sides in a specific contemporary political discussion. Historiographical polemics were therefore moments in which historiographical knowledge had to confront in the public space other approaches to the past, thus making visible, and challenging, the paradigms that rule the historical discipline and public history.

The aim and scope of the special session: Academic mobility’s impact in hosting cities and regions is often overlooked as it is perceived as being episodic, with a limited and temporary effect. Against this background, this special session aims to unpack the long-lasting influence of academic mobility in urban metabolism and regeneration processes. From larger to smaller cities and universities, how can we make use of the principles of a circular economy to understand the effects, strengths and limits of academic mobility in regional development? As academic mobility is increasing worldwide, this special session looks at the particular challenges it raises for a sustainable future.

Las redes sociales ocupan hoy una centralidad sin precedentes en las sociedades desarrolladas. Son uno de los componentes más importantes en la estructura de las relaciones sociales entre personas y organizaciones, a través de las cuales se comparten valores, expectativas, intereses y una inmensidad de flujos que las sitúan en un nivel de complejidad elevado. Conocer y comprender esa complejidad, las redes sociales y la multiplicidad de configuraciones que les son inherentes, es uno de los desafíos más grandes de nuestros días. Hoy, hablar en redes sociales nos plantea un nuevo paradigma en las ciencias sociales. En la dinámica de las relaciones sociales, los actores en ella involucrados desarrollan sus interacciones propulsado por diversas lógicas y estrategias de acción colocando, a los interventores sociales y a la comunidad académica, un conjunto de desafíos que logren obtener su análisis y comprensión. Es en este contexto que surge la 2ª edición del CIReS.

International Cinema Conference – Art, Technology and Communication
En 2018, celebraremos la 9ª edición de una conferencia que se asume cada vez como una referencia en el área de la investigación en cine. Avanca | Cinema es un punto de encuentro para los investigadores que pretenden divulgar y compartir sus investigaciones académicas. Habiendo sido la primera conferencia científica que se celebrará en conjunción con un festival de cine, Avanca | Cinema y el 22º Festival AVANCA 2018 ofrecen un ambiente único y un programa diverso que pasa por la oferta de sesiones de cine, talleres, presentaciones de libros, mesas redondas, sesiones plenarias y acontecimientos paralelos (desde la gastronomía al espacio de conciertos).Son 5 días de cine y pura fiesta ... en las miradas que se cruzan por Avanca, en Portugal en pleno verano.

The CIDEHUS (Interdisciplinary Center of History, Cultures and Societies of University of Évora) is opening the call for 1 research fellowship (starting Grant, “Bolsa de Cientista Convidado”) in the field of Library and Information Science / Digital Humanities, within the framework of UID/HIS/00057/2013 Project, with financial support from FCT/MEC (through national funds, eventually co-financed by FEDER (PT2020 Partnership agreement).
