Displaying the social history of migrants: content, scenography, public engagement

Donner à voir l’histoire sociale des migrations: contenus, scénographies, médiations

We seek proposals from post-doctoral scholars, recent PhDs, as well as those in the final stages of their dissertations with a background in related fields, in particular migration studies and social history, especially as they intersect with museum studies and/or public history. Participants will discuss, from a theoretical and a practical point of view, the best ways to display, in an exhibition context, the daily experience of past migrations in all their social dimensions.

South-South Axes of Global Art

The decentered internationalism espoused by the Havana, Dakar, and Gwangju biennials invites art historians to depart from an exclusively North Atlantic focus. Such a shift in purview seriously considers cities and regions that have been marginalized by previous academic emphases, more so than by their historical circulations of art and culture with the rest of the world. Historicizing and measuring the circulation of art on the former margins is now a decisive task if we want to evidence, nuance, or contest the “provincialization” of Europe and North America in recent art history. Artl@s’ upcoming conference aims to gather an international and transdisciplinary group of researchers to collectively investigate the formation and impediments of what we call “South-South” axes from decolonization to the present day.

This international workshop will deal with the relations between Europe and the Arabian Peninsula in the Modern Era, from the beginnings of globalization until the most recent economic and strategic developments. In order to study both the evolution and the contents of such relations, two main topics will be given a more particular interest: Cultural and Scientific Relations in connection with the change of mutual understanding from the 19^th to the 21^th century; Evolution of Economic relations from the 19^th to the 21^th century.

La 15^e conférence internationale sur les migrations se tiendra du 18 au 20 juin 2015 à Dudelange au Luxembourg. Portée par un réseau d'institution germanophone, cette conférence accepte les communications en anglais et en allemand. La thématique retenue cette année porte sur « Migration et genre » et cherchera à faire le point sur la recherche sur les rapports de sexe et de genre dans les migrations. Les perspectives suivantes seront particulièrement appréciées par les organisateurs : approche théorique sur la thématique du genre et des migrations ; représentations publiques et médiatiques du genre et des migrations ; sexualité, corps et identité en contexte de migration ; migration, genre et culture de la mémoire.
