  Miradas mexicanas sobre Francia y Estados Unidos (1821-1950)

  ¿Qué revelan sobre Ellos y Nosotros los epistolarios, diarios intimos, memorias y otros documentos olvidados?

  El coloquio propone invertir la mirada para tratar de la visión compartida por los viajeros mexicanos sobre el otro mundo, Francia y Estados Unidos, países visitados por innumerables figuras políticas e intelectuales, además de  testigos anónimos, desde la Independencia de México hasta mediados del siglo XX. Se tratará de descifrar aquellos testimonios mexicanos de naturaleza privada e íntima (epistolarios, memorias, diarios…) sin excluir las crónicas y documentos publicados en la prensa mexicana sobre los mundos francés y estadounidense entre 1821 y 1950.

  La presse francophone dans les Amériques

  La culture et la langue françaises ont joué un rôle important dans le monde, tout particulièrement dans la presse du XIX^e siècle, phénomène qui s’étend jusqu’au milieu du XX^e siècle et s’est développée grâce à l’expansion des moyens techniques de production et de communication, permettant la circulation des modèles de presse et des sujets traités, ainsi que la constitution d’imaginaires mondialisés. Ce congrès est ainsi consacré à rassembler des chercheurs dédiés à l’étude de la presse périodique francophone dans les Amériques du XIX^e et début du XX^e siècle, comme journaux, revues et almanachs.

  Climat et temps : la science comme culture publique

  Communication scientifique et son histoire – III

  This conference is the third in a series devoted to historical and contemporary perspectives on the communication of science and technology. Climate and weather provide a particularly rich and challenging case study to complete the conference series. As with other disciplines studied during the previous conferences, the climate sciences are characterised by complexity: in their professional networks; their conceptual models; and the logistics of their large-scale data and computing needs. Yet few modern scientific disciplines attract the same level of public engagement, in both everyday life and passionate debate on the future of the planet. Moreover, their status at the intersection of policy, scientific controversy and the public sphere is not a recent development: the same issues and fault lines ran through meteorology from the 18th-century onwards. Shifting interests within the history of science and the development of environmental history have greatly expanded the field in recent years. The conference will provide an opportunity to reflect on these historiographical developments via a specific focus on the communication of weather and climate from the 18th to the 21st centuries. The conference will address three themes in particular: Commodification of meteorological knowledge, Media, and Historicizing climate history.
