  Représenter l’altérité : rencontres à travers l’espace et le temps (entre les XVIe et XIXe siècles)

  Cette journée d'étude se donne pour but de considérer les stratégies mises en œuvre par la littérature de voyage entre les XVI^e et XIX^e siècles afin de représenter la figure de l'autre, qu'il s'agisse de stratégies textuelles ou visuelles. Tous les domaines linguistiques et culturels pourront être considérés afin de construire un tableau aussi large que possible de la manière dont l'autre est appréhendé par les récits des voyageurs à l'époque moderne.

  Conférence annuelle pour « postgraduates » du Réseau des études portuaires et maritimes

  Established in 2016, the International Postgraduate Port and Maritime Studies Network brings together postgraduates working on port and maritime studies across a wide range of chronologies and geographies. The network is supported by the Centre for Port and Maritime History, a collaborative venture between The University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University, and Merseyside Maritime Museum, which facilitates research on port cities and their relationship to maritime endeavour and enterprise. Our network is currently comprised of postgraduates from universities in the Basque Country, Crete, Hamburg and New South Wales, as well as from various institutions across the UK.

  Art history for artists: interactions between scholarly discourse and artistic practice in the 19th century

  The conference seeks to examine the shaping of art history as a discipline during the 19^th century in relation to artistic training and exchanges between artists and scholars. The development of art history has been associated with an array of socio-political and economic factors such as the formation of a bourgeois public, the politics of national identity and state legitimacy or the needs of an expanding art market. This conference aspires to explore yet another, less studied dimension: the extent to which the historical study of art was also rooted in an intention to inform contemporary artistic production.
