  Still on the Map!

  Les communautés du delta du Mississippi à l’épreuve de la disparition des sols

  « Still on the Map! » prend pour cadre d’étude le delta du Mississippi quinze années après le passage de l’ouragan Katrina et environ cinq ans après la mise en service des principales nouvelles infrastructures de protection contre le risque d’inondation « centennale ». Exprimé dès son titre – un énoncé de résistance / résilience scandé par nombre d’habitants lors des manifestations à caractère écologique en Louisiane –, ce projet de recherche ambitionne de décrire les liens et « attachements » (Latour, 2017) que différentes communautés du delta entretiennent avec leur milieu géographique en situation de forte bascule écologique, intégrant dans la définition des écosystèmes les infrastructures naturelles et artificielles du bassin hydrographique comme autant d’acteurs socio-politiques à part entière.

  En este dossier para la revista de Historia contemporánea Hispania Nova (Universidad Carlos III de Madrid), nos proponemos explorar la relación entre la crisis del sistema liberal que sucede a la Gran Guerra y la utilización del arte y de la imagen como medios de comunicación política, observando cómo el lenguaje cinematográfico refleja las transformaciones políticas, sociales y económicas del periodo de entreguerras en los países industrializados.

  Une discipline indisciplinée: défis à venir pour les études des cultures populaires

  This call for paper is for a workshop which it itself included in this year's international symposium of the AFEA (Franch Association of American Studies) which will happen in Nantes, France from May 22 nd to the 24th. This year's main theme of the conference is "discipline/indiscipline." (event for which you can find more information here: http://www.afea.fr/-2019-AFEA-Conference-Discplines-Indiscipline-.html) This workshop intends to address and explore further this binary dichotomy through the prism of cultural studies, interrogating more precisely if the emergence of pop cultural studies is truly something to advocate for. Communications can tackle this issue from a more theoretical standpoint, but they can also deal with more precise case studies which would illustrate how pop culture and cultural studies are both defying disciplinary classifications. Communications can be either in French or in English.

  Representations of Power and Power of the Image in British and American Contemporary Photography

  Représentations du pouvoir et pouvoir de l’image dans la photographie contemporaine américaine et britannique

  From the power of images to images of power, this workshop will explore the representations of power and the power of representation in contemporary American and British photography. What is photography capable of doing? Whether in the form of a public person, the environment of power (emblematic places and explicit or underlying forms) or its symbolism, what is photography capable of revealing about power itself? Political, institutional, economic or social power all depend upon a system of relations or tensions between groups or individuals (accepted, rejected, questioned, expressed visually or internalized) participating in the construction of the identity, myths or memories of the American or British nations. In what manner does photography enhance or contribute to this construction or deconstruction of the notion of identity and nation?

  We are assembling a book proposal for University Press of Mississippi for an anthology on HBO’s TV Series Treme. The book aims to interrogate the multiple and complex social-historical, political, racial, and cultural constructions of reality represented in the series through the contributions of scholars from different disciplines. We are looking for extended abstract submissions reflecting diverse theoretical perspectives and methodological approaches.

  Durante el primer lustro de los noventa en el caso de México, gracias a los programas de apoyo a óperas primas desde 1988, tuvo lugar una importante “ola” de nuevos realizadores que revitalizó temas y sus respectvos tratamientos, al grado de que se ha hablado de una nueva época de oro de debutantes, que si bien la mayoría queda en el anonimato, algunos logran continuar con obra reconocida sea dentro de la gran industria o de importantes festivales.
