Gendered Species: Colette, Gender and Sexual Identities
Although French woman writer Colette was indifferent to and even critical of the feminist movement of the early 1900s, in the way she lived her life as in her fiction, she exemplified financial and social independence and shame-free sexuality, or what would be call today “gender fluidity”. This international conference will show how Colette represents a vibrant and radical expression of feminism in tune with the #MeToo spirit in today's society

Letters between women, exchanges and epistolary mediations
Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, 8th-15th century

Building techniques in writings on architecture between Italy, France and the Low Countries
This conference focuses on the connection between architectural theory and construction techniques. The first part deals with the analysis of technical descriptions, their relationship with building practice, their rhetorical value, and their international circulation and adaptation. It comprises case studies from Italy, France, and the Low Countries. The second part approaches the same problem in a comparative perspective and takes the form of round-table discussions structured around three themes: the relationship between technical writings and construction practices, the literary aspects of technical digressions, and the translation and adaptation of Italian treatises.

Travel in France and Ireland: Tourism, Sport and Culture
11th AFIS Conference, University of La Rochelle
Travel is one of Man’s main driving forces. The sea is an important feature of the geography of both Ireland and France, so it is perhaps unsurprising that waves of migration have been such an important aspect of the history of both countries. In ancient times and still today, we travel through necessity (wars, persecutions, economic, political and climatic reasons), by vocation (religious and humanitarian) and for pleasure (tourism, culture and sport).
