  Populism and neopopulism in the Atlantic world (Europe and Latin America)

  Definitions and concepts in the light of the political evolutions of recent decades

  Nous assistons aujourd'hui dans une grande partie du monde à l'émergence de nouvelles formes du politique qui, faute de mieux, sont appelées « populismes » ou « néopopulismes ». Que l'on s'intéresse à l'élection de Donald Trump aux États-Unis ou celle de Jair Bolsonaro au Brésil, ou aux régimes de Vladimir Poutine, Victor Orban, la Ligue du Nord et du mouvement Cinq Etoiles, cette évolution politique a très souvent été envisagée comme une déformation pathologique d'une forme politique qui aurait existé sous une forme « originellement pure » : la démocratie libérale. Dans ce contexte où les concepts ne servent plus qu'à nourrir l'invective, il nous a paru important de réunir des chercheuses et chercheurs de différentes disciplines et horizons afin de privilégier des analyses comparatives ou des échanges favorisant les perspectives comparatives.

  Religion and Politics in Small Nations: Comparative Socio-cultural and Institutional Dimensions

  ISSR's 35th Congress - Thematic session

  Small nations of Central and Eastern Europe have provided fertile ground to study the relationship between religion and politics. Too often, however, research on the region suffers from a problematic Orientalism, depicting nationalism in the East as a dangerous ethnic, religious, and anti-modern force. This bilingual thematic session, organized within the framework of the 2019 Congress of the International Society of Sociology of Religions (ISSR - July 9-12 - Barcelona), seeks to understand the relationship between politics and religion “from within” small nations themselves.

  Sedition and revolt in modern european political thought

  We wish to bring together international contributors once more in a discussion of the political thought brought about by various uprisings between the end of the Middle Ages and the modern era, whether it be reflections over a particular event, or more general considerations over the causes of sedition and protest movements, the means to prevent or suppress new episodes, and their adverse – or regenerative – effects. This analysis will focus on political writings composed for government use or for a wider audience – memoirs and reports, as well as treatises on the statecraft that proliferated throughout Europe in the modern era and saw wide acceptance. There is a tendency in the current literature to make use of historical examples that are distant in time and place, and a need to consider the possible repercussions of theoretical reflection from experience drawn from recent or contemporary revolts.

  Armed conflicts in Latin America in the 19th century

  Le symposium propose une approche des conflits armés (révolutions, guerres civiles, soulèvements, révoltes, émeutes, « pronunciamientos ») en Amérique latine / Amérique Ibérique pendant le processus de construction et de consolidation de l’État, depuis la période qui a suivi les indépendances et jusqu’au début du XX^e siècle. Il s’intéresse à la circulation d’acteurs, de pratiques et de concepts politiques dans le cadre des espaces transnationaux, tout en prenant de la distance face à une histoire strictement « nationale », politique et militaire.

  Appel à contributions : « L'Espagne et la construction européenne ». En partenariat avec la Fondation Académie européenne de Yuste (FAEY), le CVCE organisera une conférence internationale le 16 et 17 avril 2012 au Monastère royal de Yuste en Espagne. Cette conférence s'inscrit dans le cadre de son projet de recherche actuel « L'Espagne et la construction européenne », consacré à la relation historique entre l'Espagne et l'Europe au sens large, de la fin de la seconde guerre mondiale à nos jours. Le délai pour la soumission des propositions est le 22 janvier 2012.
