Coronations and consecrations in the Christian West: rites, State and society from the Middle Ages to the present day

Les sacres en tant que rites de passage ont joué un grand rôle dans les relations entre les hommes, dans les sociétés tournées vers le monde divin, où le souverain peut intervenir dans la nature en guérissant ses sujets par des miracles, comme en France ou en Angleterre. L’évolution des sacres marque le passage des religions héritées aux religions prescrites, puis aux religions intériorisées où la laïcité se répand, suivant en cela le schéma du philosophe Marcel Gauchet (Le désenchantement du monde. Une histoire politique de la religion, 1985). Cette manifestation scientifique permet de revisiter les liens qu’entretiennent les rites avec la société et l’État.

The cleric factory - training, professions and vocations in Christianity (c.1300-c.1800)

Formation, profession, vocation dans les christianismes (circa 1300-circa 1800)

The aim of this conference is to take a fresh look at the education, training and formation of clergymen, whose status encompasses the idea of vocation on the one hand and profession on the other. The conference proposes to consider the processes of training over an extended period of time (from the late middle ages to the early 19^th century) and from a comparative perspective across the different Christian confessions. All stages of training (initial and continuous training) will be considered, both for instructors and candidates to the clergy. Particular emphasis will be placed on the shaping of a corporate identity which served to both reflect and perform the idea that a disparate body of men belonged to the collective body of the church. Our purpose will be to make a contribution to an historiographical field that is currently undergoing a significant renewal, particularly in the context of a comparative history of European Christianity.

Constructions, usages et aménagements des églises (XIIIe-XVIIIe siècles)

La liturgie et l’architecture paraissent entretenir un lien évident, qui peut s’expliciter de la façon suivante : « Dans ce domaine, la principale interrogation demeure celle de la création des formes architecturales déterminées par les pratiques liturgiques ou bien, à l’inverse, celle de l’influence du cadre architectural sur le déroulement de la liturgie. » (Eric Palazzo, Liturgie et société au Moyen Âge, Paris, 2000). En termes plus récents, cette interrogation apparaît comme une variante du vaste débat entre « forme et fonction » qui irrigue encore de nos jours les milieux de l’architecture : à quelle donnée reviendrait la primauté ?

L'ANR LODOCAT (Chrétientés en Lotharingie et Dorsale catholique, IX^e-XVIII^e siècle) recrute deux post-docs (historiens ayant des compétences informatiques) : contrat d'un an (2016) - constituer une base de données prosopographique sur le personnel épiscopal de six provinces ecclésiastiques sur la période XIVe-XVIIe siècles ; contrat de deux ans (2016-2017) - constituer un atlas numérique de l’espace concerné par le projet ANR LODOCAT.

Ce colloque se propose d'examiner les différentes modalités de contacts entre les clergés en formation à l'ère des divisions confessionnelles et de la construction des différentes identités. Il s'agira d'examiner tant les contacts conflictuels que les influences réciproques (tant par attraction que par répulsion) entre catholiques et protestants dans l'émergence de clergés constitués.
