  Doing business with the State

  Entrepreneurs and public markets in France from the 7th-early 10th century

  La journée d'étude qui fait l'objet de cet appel à contribution visera à comprendre ce qui fait la spécificité pour un entrepreneur d'être en affaire avec l'État. De récentes manifestations scientifiques ont, jusqu'ici, abordé la question des marchés publics du point de vue de l'État ; il semble aujourd'hui nécessaire de prendre celui des entrepreneurs pour mieux saisir comment s'opère l'ajustement entre les parties prenantes de ces marchés. Au-delà des modalités contractuelles, il s'agira de s'interroger sur la construction de relations particulières entre entrepreneurs et agents de l'État ainsi que sur la profitabilité de tels marchés pour ceux qui les remportent.

  Call for papers - Urban studies

  At the Frontiers of Urban Space

  Small towns of the world: emergence, growth, economic and social role, territorial integration, governance

  From 22nd to 24th January 2014, will be held the international conference “At the Frontiers of Urban Space. Small towns of the world” at the University of Avignon. Organized by the laboratory ESPACE, this conference aims to compare the different issues concerning the least studied part of the urban hierarchy. It will also address the question of limits and definitions that are supposed to set the opposition between urban and rural, as well as between urban and metropolitan. Process of emergence, growth, economic and social role, territorial integration, governance: this meeting provides an opportunity for researchers and professionals from different backgrounds to take stock on a topical issue that arises all around the world.
