History and polemics: historiographical debates and the public space

Ever since history became an academic knowledge, historiographical debates have been exceptional moments of construction, condensation and dissensus, often resulting in historiographical turns. Controversies around specific themes have divided entire fields of knowledge production, bringing into light different, often contrasting conceptions, methodologies and practices of historical knowledge. Such debates were, at the same time, moments in which the description and interpretation of the past represented a public intervention in the present, in which the defense of a certain way of making sense of history was also a way of taking of sides in a specific contemporary political discussion. Historiographical polemics were therefore moments in which historiographical knowledge had to confront in the public space other approaches to the past, thus making visible, and challenging, the paradigms that rule the historical discipline and public history.

    Conference, symposium - Thought

May 68 in the past fifty years - in French-language literature and culture. Appraisal and prospection

The literature and theory of the French language and the challenge of translation in the Iberian peninsular (18th-21st centuries)

    Ethics and social responsibility research

Following in the footsteps of its first edition in 2011, the 2nd Symposium on Ethics and Social Responsibility Research-2013 is intended to promote a dialogue between the research lines which converge in the quest  for scientific  understanding of the current challenges of ethics, sustainability and social responsibility in organizations. SESRR will also address the complexities of individual ethical decision-making processes in organizational settings. It aims not only to discuss theoretical models and empirical results, but also debating the organizational strategies and the intervention practices in these areas, which are particularly at stake in the context  of the economic crisis nowadays. Issues such as the prevention of misconduct in organizations or the relationship between individual’s ethical behavior and the strategies for the economic recovery will be discussed at specific forums.

    Call for papers - Representation

    Art and Power

As the aesthetic practices of human thinking, the arts inalienably integrate into (and even when their creators may have striven after neutrality) social and political life, which, in turn, is driven by the dynamism of the powers and the institutions that they serve. We know very well, and throughout human history, how these powers (economic, political, religious) have always drawn deeply, and with great appreciation, on the diverse forms of artistic expression as a fundamental means of their own affirmation.
