  The Sources of Colour: the Gobelins Dyeing Workshop

  Jehan Gobelin, a dyer from Reims, set up a workshop in the mid fifteenth century not far from the BièvreRiver, whose water was particularly suitable for dyeing purposes. His descendants, who were experts inthe dyeing of wool in Venice scarlet, soon acquired vast stretches of land that ran alongside the Bièvre andconstructed large workshops. Henri IV rented them and had tapestry workshops installed on the sites. This rich diachronic and multidisciplinary history is the topic of these study days, the first ever devoted tothe Gobelins dyeing workshop, in its long history. Based on unprecedented sources or sources seen from afresh perspective, these study days aims to focus on the latest knowledge concerning the dyeing workshop.

  Michael Jackson's artistic contributions: a different perspective

  The number of academic studies on Michael Jackson has increased in recent years, no doubt coinciding with both an awareness of his impact on the music industry, music history and society, and the growing interest he represented for cultural studies. However, many of the studies concerning him have focused much less on his artistic contributions than on the so-called anxiety-provoking fluidity of his artistic image, often examined through the prism of “race”. By dedicating a special issue to Michael Jackson, NaKan proposes to shift this perception and broaden the approaches that are too often melano-centric to generate a reflection that is more oriented towards the artist's work and the mediums of his expressions, as so many channels offering a possibility of contextualization, and historical and stylistic analysis.

  How far have we come?

  This workshop will bring together NTeALan’s large community of members living in Cameroon and abroad, invited researchers, partners and other members of the scientific community. This workshop aims at bringing together professionals, researchers and experts in African languages and Natural Language Processing (NLP), whose research work focuses on machine learning techniques and electronic lexicography applied to NLP and language pedagogy/didactics. We will also discuss the main challenges that arise in this context for the constitution of corpora in African languages. We will define possible directions for future progress.

  Going beyond the limits: experiment with timbre in vocal and instrumental practice in modal music

  This title, inspired by a Christopher Page article, points out a key question about the reenactment of medieval music: how to put in sound the vast repertoire that we have inherited. This question links the instruments and their music, as they immediately imply issues related to performance and organological knowledge. From the vocal point of view, it is even more of a burning issue as it requires for imagination and representation. Can experiment, practice and trial go beyond the limits imposed on us by the few material traces available ?

  Legal chronicles and the memory of Nazism in Germany, Austria and France

  Ce projet interdisciplinaire s’adresse à des chercheuses et chercheurs en histoire, études germaniques, droit et sciences de l’information et de la communication. Il vise à analyser l’impact des procès de criminels nazis peu connus du grand public sur la transmission de la mémoire du nazisme en France, en Allemagne et en Autriche. Il se penche sur deux moments peu investis par la recherche, les années 1950 et les années 2000-2010 à partir de la chronique judiciaire (comptes rendus dans la presse, la radio, la télévision et sur internet), qui fait le lien entre l’arène du tribunal et l’opinion.

  Blank spaces: concepts and practices

  Le blanc est un concept majeur dans la réflexion sur les relations entre écriture et figure. Il renvoie, sans s’y réduire, au support sur lequel s’inscrivent le texte et l'image dans l’espace du livre, de l’estampe, de la peinture, de la paroi ou du mur. Souvent théorisé en Occident comme un vide, un manque qui s’oppose à la matérialité de la figure ou du signe écrit, il est pourtant susceptible d’assumer un rôle énonciatif, sémantique et plastique dont les artistes et les écrivains se sont souvent emparés, et qui reste à interroger. Prolongeant le colloque Écritures V. Systèmes d'écriture, imaginaire lettré (2015), ce colloque se donne pour but d’explorer la richesse conceptuelle de la notion de blanc, et la multiplicité des enjeux qu’elle ouvre dans l’étude des formes mixtes associant figure et support.

  The City, the Media and Gentrification: Actors, Discourses and Representations

  Partant de l’hypothèse que les médias sont des émetteurs de discours et de représentations, ce colloque vise à interroger leur rôle en tant qu’acteur au sein de la sphère publique dans le domaine de la gentrification. Le terme « médias » sera entendu au sens large, tous les médias étant susceptibles d’aborder la question de la gentrification. On pense de façon non limitative aux médias traditionnels (presse écrite, radio, télévision), aux nouveaux médias (les extensions de la presse traditionnelle : presse numérique, podcasts, blogs, etc.) et aux réseaux sociaux (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.). Il s’agira de discuter des articulations disciplinaires possibles (sociologique, architecturale, urbanistique, linguistique, etc.) entre médias et processus de gentrification.

  Restoration and the work

  En 2019, l’Institut national du patrimoine inaugurait un nouveau cycle de conférences, consacrées à l’excellence et la richesse du métier de restaurateur du patrimoine. Ce cycle se poursuit. Confrontés à de nouveaux enjeux patrimoniaux, les restaurateurs développent des compétences spécifiques pour pouvoir y répondre. Les conférences mettront en lumière les savoir-faire des restaurateurs et les nombreuses connaissances auxquelles leur métier fait appel. À la fois chercheur, scientifique, enquêteur et même ingénieur, le restaurateur du patrimoine ne se contente pas de restaurer. Il participe à la recherche sur les œuvres aux côtés des scientifiques et des conservateurs et permet de reconstituer l’histoire d’un objet grâce aux recherches qu’ils réalisent et aux hypothèses qu’il émet.

  Dans le cadre de sa programmation scientifique, le laboratoire GERiiCO - Université de Lille organise le 3 février 2021 une journée intitulée « Le web sémantique et le patrimoine culturel : de la convergence des données au croisement des connaissances ». Cette journée s’inscrit dans le cadre de l’axe 3 : « Innovation par l’usage et dispositifs numériques ». Elle vise à analyser les retentissements du web sémantique (appelé aussi web de données) sur les nouvelles pratiques d’organisation des connaissances, l’émergence de nouveaux dispositifs et la convergence des données et contenus culturels des bibliothèques, des musées et archives pour les utilisateurs du web.
