  The representation

  Les Cahiers d’études des cultures ibériques et latino-américaines (CECIL)

  The problem of representation is central to the disciplinary fields of all the human and social sciences, most often implicitly. This omnipresence sometimes makes us forget that it is a notion whose definition, status and function are subject to the fluctuations of history. What interests us is the discrepancy between what this notion has been able to encompass over time and what it encompasses nowadays, as well as the explanation that can be given to these discrepancies or possible ruptures. The reflection focuses in particular on the link between the notion of representation and the notions of 'heritage' - tangible or intangible objects, but also products of a social construction - and of 'memory', since it is constructed through concrete representations, whether social or discursive practices.

  Religion, social movements and politics in a polarised and post-secular age

  Ce colloque plaidera pour une meilleure articulation de la sociologie des religions et de la sociologie des mouvements sociaux et sera l’occasion d’analyser différentes des articulations multiples entre acteurs religieux et mouvements sociaux, tant du côté progressiste que du côté réactionnaire, dans différentes régions du monde. Nous nous intéresserons particulièrement au rôle des groupes religieux dans la formation de nouvelles générations de militants et en tant qu’incubateurs de cultures politiques.

  The Christianity of liberation and social justice in Latin America. Evolutions, heritages and contemporary challenges

  Ce colloque se propose d’étudier les origines (la Révolution cubaine, Vatican II, les mouvements de la jeunesse chrétienne, les communautés ecclésiales de base), certains de ses principaux acteurs (G. Gutierrez, L. Boff, F. Houtart) et les principales thèses de la théologie de la libération (option préférentielle pour les pauvres, critique du capitalisme, critique de l’idolâtrie du marché) mais aussi d’examiner leurs conséquences politiques et culturelles à la lumière des défis du XXI^e siècle en Amérique latine.

  In the heart of religion - theories, practices, methodologies and interdisciplinarity

  Cette année, ce séminaire conçu comme un moment important à la sociabilité des doctorant·e·s du CéSor se composera d’une partie à orientation théorique et d’une autre axée sur la méthodologie. L’axe théorique se penchera principalement sur les questions d’identités dans toutes les orientations et recompositions. La multiplication et le renouvellement incessant des emplois de la notion d'identité n'étant plus à démontrer, le but de ces séances sera de réfléchir d’un point de vue interdisciplinaire aux divers expressions identitaires et aux orientations données aux recherches dans lesquelles entre une telle notion, en multipliant les terrains (terrains ethnographiques, archives ou corpus de sources), les périodes et les aires géographiques.

  Contemporary Religious Movements: From Africa to the Americas and Back

  The transatlantic movement of beliefs and of religious practices dates back to the earliest days of the “discovery” of the Americas. Since then, there have been over five hundred years of exchange between the two sides of the Atlantic. In many cases, religious movements brought to the New World by European and African migrants were among those persecuted by the hegemonic religious institutions as heretic or pagan. Sometimes, the crossing to the New World has brought about transformation of old belief systems, leading to the creation of so- called “syncretistic” movements, such as Haitian Voodoo, Rastafarianism, Candomblé, etc. To these, we might add the Pentecostal wave, which in recent decades has been sweeping across both Latin America and Sub-Saharan Africa, transforming the religious landscapes.
