Frontiers, Actors, Dynamics
The historiography of imperial Spain and of the Iberian-initiated first globalization has recently been renewed by the study of exchanges between Asia and America and of the Spanish Pacific. The purpose of this one-day seminar is to further this historiographical renewal and to shed some new light on the Iberian East Indies, at a time when Spain and Portugal were the two main European powers in the region. The focus will be put on exchanges, dynamics of cooperation and rivalry between empires and also between various key actors: missionaries, merchants, soldiers and officials. The aim is thus to improve our understanding of the multiple connections between the Asian territories of both empires.

La journée d'étude se propose d'explorer, à travers un large éventail de sources et d’animaux, les relations qui unissent noblesse et animal au Moyen Âge et à l'époque moderne, dans les mondes hispaniques et lusophones. Les réflexions se situeront à la croisée de deux axes d'étude principaux ; celui de la noblesse par l'animal, d'une part, qui fait de l’animal l'un des éléments identifiants et identitaires indispensables à une certaine ostentation aristocratique. Le deuxième axe de réflexion sera celui de la noblesse de l’animal. Mise en lumière par une branche novatrice de la recherche, elle prend en considération l’animal non plus seulement comme compagnon de l’homme mais comme un individu à part entière qui possède sa propre identité et sa propre noblesse.

La revue Histoire, médecine et santé lance un appel à contributions pour un dossier thématique portant sur les données médicales. Le big data s’est aujourd’hui imposé dans le champ de la santé : les données en grand nombre sont mobilisées dans la recherche biomédicale, pour diagnostiquer la maladie ou bien envisager un traitement. Nous aimerions que ce numéro thématique questionne la notion de données médicales dans un temps long, en partant du principe qu’elles constituent tous les éléments mobilisés par les soignant·e·s et les chercheurs·euses pour appréhender l’état de santé des individus et leurs éventuelles pathologies. Il s’agit notamment de réfléchir aux mécanismes de pouvoir sur les corps produits par un regard médical fondé sur l’élaboration de données sérielles et d’investiguer la manière dont elle façonne les savoirs médicaux et la définition même des pathologies.

The Myth of Versailles and European Courts, 18th and 19th centuries
This symposium is organised in conjunction with the research programme “Court identities and the myth of Versailles in Europe: perception, adherence and rejection (18th-19th centuries)” led by the Centre de recherche du château de Versailles. The aim is to analyse the modus operandi of the myth of Versailles in the monarchic Europe of the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries, taking into account the two contradictory yet complementary elements that characterise the idea of myth: the real and the reconstruction of the real. The focus of this conference will therefore be twofold: understanding how the different aspects specific to the identity of Versailles have fuelled an illusion, but also discerning how this illusion gave rise to other accomplishments, whether architectural, ritual or political.

Thinking social ties in Iberian America
Languages, experiences and temporalities (16th-21st centuries)
De l’époque de la Conquête et de la colonisation jusqu’à nos jours, les liens sociaux ont été extraordinairement intenses, complexes et conflictuels en Amérique ibérique. Il est possible d’explorer le langage social de la solidarité et de la désunion, et de se demander comment, depuis la fin du XIXe siècle, les sciences sociales et la psychologie sociale ont oscillé entre discours, enquêtes et conceptualisations selon une tentative toujours renouvelée de rendre compte des spécificités, des pathologies et des adaptations de sociétés de plus en plus diversifiées. En tant qu’élément substantiel du lien social, la mémoire collective peut être abordée selon une perspective historiographique qui explore la diversité de ses motifs et de ses manifestations tout au long des cinq derniers siècles.

Religious history of the Renaissance has, without a doubt, been one of the fields of predilection of historians in recent decades. Various sources have been used to develop the field (registers/proceedings of ecclesiastical institutions, of tribunals and of urban institutions; notarial registers; correspondences of princes and of their representatives, those of cities, of bourgeois and of theologians, diaries and memoirs of contemporaries; theological treaties; etc.).

Il prétend contribuer au courant actuel de rapprochement entre histoire du droit et histoire culturelle.

Portraits and self-portraits of authors : Picturing writers
Revue « Savoirs en prisme »
L’écrivain est devenu l’objet de représentations visuelles dont la multimodalité même fait sens. Le numéro 12 de la revue Savoirs en prisme invite les contributeurs à réfléchir au transfert du réel à l'imaginaire, voire au légendaire, d'écrivains réels. On pourra aborder ce transfert dans toute sa diversité, se demander comment la mise en images de l’auteur dans le paratexte fait récit, choisir de s’attacher à la mise en livres de l’auteur historique ou encore à son exposition dans un musée. L’auteur peut aussi se mettre en images lui-même : qu’advient-il lorsqu’il se met en scène dans une autofiction visuelle ? Quelle est la portée éditoriale, poétique, esthétique, culturelle ou médiatique de cette mise en images ?

Inca Peru - in the colonial and contemporary age - history, art history and literature
9th international Peruvian Studies congress
Cette manifestation scientifique après le VIIIe congrès à l’université d’Ottawa en 2017 s’inscrit dans un cycle d’activités de grand prestige entre la France et le Pérou jusqu’à la célébration du bicentenaire de l’Indépendance en juillet 2021. Le congrès des spécialistes du Pérou sera un hommage au professeur Bernard Lavallé, historien et hispaniste reconnu internationalement pour ses travaux sur le Pérou et toute l’aire andine, l’Amérique coloniale et l’histoire de l’émigration aquitaine vers l’Amérique latine. L’autre axe fédérateur du neuvième congrès sera la relecture de l’œuvre de Manuel Gonzalez Prada, à l’occasion du centenaire de la mort du penseur et poète survenue à Lima en 1918. La pensée de Manuel Gonzalez Prada a eu des répercussions dans tout le continent : indo-américanisme, universités populaires, laïcité, lutte contre la corruption, inclusion sociale.

O Centro de história da universidade de Lisboa, juntamente com a universidade do Porto, Ashkelon Academic College e o Dahan Center da Bar-Ilan University estão a organizar um congresso internacional, a decorrer em 2018 (27 de Junho a 2 de Julho), na universidade de Lisboa e na universidade do Porto, dedicado ao tema dos Judeus em Portugal e a diáspora luso-espanhola. Está de momento aberta a chamada à participação de todos os investigadores, especialistas e académicos, que desejem apresentar os seus trabalhos e resultados neste evento.

Borders and space - issues of definition in the Spanish speaking world, 18th-19th century
Une des tendances récentes de l’historiographie consiste à considérer l’espace comme un biais de renouvellement des recherches sur la construction de l’État moderne et de la nation contemporaine. La réflexion sur les différentes configurations historiques de l’espace permet de déconstruire les schémas généraux de l’histoire des institutions, très fortement marqués par l’idéologie étatique, et de considérer l’histoire « locale » comme une part de l’histoire « globale ». Les historiens du droit sont particulièrement concernés par cette nouvelle perspective transnationale. Le monde hispanique offre des cas de figure de surcroît inhabituels pour le public français. Les trois intervenants de l’atelier-séminaire entrent tous dans cette perspective et parleront des modalités de configuration juridique des espaces politiques.

Five Centuries of Cultural Influence
Generations of scholars have studied the multi-faceted experiences of the Franciscans in Mexico and the ways in which the Franciscan order shaped New Spain and the early Mexican republic. This conference examines the range of Franciscan influence and analyzes new scholarship that focuses on the multiple discourses with which friars engaged native peoples, creole populations, the vice-regal authorities, and other actors throughout the Spanish empire. The conference brings together junior and senior scholars to study the long Franciscan experience in Mexico on the eve of the commemoration of the quincentenary of the Spanish — and thus the Franciscan— presence in Mexico.

Afin de contribuer au renouvellement des interprétations sur l’indépendance des pays andins en vue des célébrations de 2021, on dépassera les explications qui ont marqué la seconde moitié du XXe siècle, à savoir de pays à la dérive et d’une indépendance concédée en révisant deux siècles d'histoire coloniale et républicaine, des Lumières à la Belle Époque selon la périodisation française. Par leur approche pluridisciplinaire, les communications s’appuieront sur des textes inédits ou inexplorés, des auto-documents de nature non fictionnelle – rapports militaires, correspondances diplomatiques, chroniques religieuses, récits de voyage, mémoires, etc. – ou des documents iconographiques.

As part of the ANR project “Cultures of Revolts and revolutions in Europe”, we wish to bring together international contributors in a discussion of the european political thought brought about by various uprisings between the end of the Middle Ages and the modern era, whether it be reflections over a particular event, or more general considerations over the causes of sedition and protest movements, the means to prevent or suppress new episodes, and their adverse – or regenerative – effects.

This conference intends to continue the tradition of the Hispanic-Dutch-Belgian meetings and will bring together a number of established and early-career researchers working in the field of the institutional history of the Habsburg Low Countries from the 16th to the 18th centuries. It aims to draw attention to a broad range of political, cultural, religious, legal, and military institutions by focusing on the enriching approaches that have shaped historical research on institutional history in the past few decades. At the same time, it hopes to bring into the limelight some exciting new (and often interdisciplinary) perspectives that characterize current research in the field.

New ports, pioneer ports (XIVth-XXIth centuries)
The Conference will address four topics: the creation of a port, the major enlargement of an existing port, the rapid transformation of a small port into a big harbour, or the temporary establishment of a port for economic or military reasons. The analysis includes commercial harbours and naval bases, as well as mixed ports. The concept of an “Atlantic port” refers to its location on the Atlantic Ocean or its extensions in the Channel, the North Sea and the Caribbean Sea. This includes the ports of the European, the African and American Atlantic littoral, as well as the metropolitan European and the African and American ports both as colonial ports and after their independence.

Ce numéro des Cahiers d'études des cultures ibériques et latino-américaines (CECIL) invite ainsi à s'interroger à l’époque moderne sur les stratégies d'écriture, de réécriture et de construction du discours afin de mystifier les censeurs de la fin du Moyen Âge et de la modernité. Par delà les pratiques d'écriture propres aux auteurs mystiques et ascétiques, les contribution d'études replaceront la médiatisation du texte ascétique dans son rapport à la norme juridique et canonique.

Le colloque se propose d'explorer l’histoire de l'Amérique latine aux XVIIIe, XIXe et XXe siècles à travers trois domaines : l'histoire mondiale, l'histoire connectée et l'histoire des relations internationales. Merchants, jurists and other "intermediate groups" in Early Modern Southern Europe
Merchants, farmers, jurists, clerks in large institutions, secretaries, independent landowners, local elites and highly sought master craftsmen, among many others, are individuals with an ambiguous social status. Looking at who was not born exactly noble, nor exactly commoner, but stood on the border between one world and the other, is one of the goals of this initiative. As part of a project developed in Portugal focusing on the Holy Office’s familiaturas, it will be held on September 16 and 17, 2015, a workshop at Escuela Española de Historia and Archaeological in Rome. Our aim is to select a total of 8 applicants, that will be joined by 4 guest speakers, for a joint reflection on the dynamics and profiles of ‘intermediate groups’, as well as on the methodologies for their study in Early Modern Times.

III international seminar "Itinera. New perpectives on historical and geographical research"
El Seminario de 2015 tiene como hilo conductor los espacios insulares y de frontera en las edades Moderna y Contemporánea, así como las sociedades en que se asientan, en el contexto mediterráneo desde una perspectiva de la larga duración e interdisciplinariedad. El encuentro constituye una ocasión para reflexionar sobre el tema de la frontera como lugar de enccuentro, travesía y tránsito; al igual que sobre el rol de las islas y de las sociedades insulares, bien como frontera, bien como nodo en el seno de una tupida red de transmisión de saberes. La pretensión del Seminario es la de superar, también desde el punto de vista geográfico, el concepto de aislamiento, proponiendo, por el contrario, el de un sistema de islas en el Mediterráneo.
