  The representation

  Les Cahiers d’études des cultures ibériques et latino-américaines (CECIL)

  The problem of representation is central to the disciplinary fields of all the human and social sciences, most often implicitly. This omnipresence sometimes makes us forget that it is a notion whose definition, status and function are subject to the fluctuations of history. What interests us is the discrepancy between what this notion has been able to encompass over time and what it encompasses nowadays, as well as the explanation that can be given to these discrepancies or possible ruptures. The reflection focuses in particular on the link between the notion of representation and the notions of 'heritage' - tangible or intangible objects, but also products of a social construction - and of 'memory', since it is constructed through concrete representations, whether social or discursive practices.

  Festive rituals in South America: excess, restraint and scheduling

  Cette journée d'étude se propose de réunir différentes intervenant·e·s autour de la thématique des rituels festifs en Amérique du Sud. Autour de cas contemporains de fêtes et autres festivals, il s'agira d'étudier leurs (re)configurations récentes face à certaines dynamiques sociales. Les contextes de tourismes, de migrations, de constructions d'altérité impactent fortement les systèmes festifs et rituels de nombreux groupes sur le continent. Pour discuter de cela, trois axes guideront la journée : le festif comme « lien », le genre et le festif, l'« authenticité » et son usage dans le festif.

  The Franciscans in Mexico

  Five Centuries of Cultural Influence

  Generations of scholars have studied the multi-faceted experiences of the Franciscans in Mexico and the ways in which the Franciscan order shaped New Spain and the early Mexican republic. This conference examines the range of Franciscan influence and analyzes new scholarship that focuses on the multiple discourses with which friars engaged native peoples, creole populations, the vice-regal authorities, and other actors throughout the Spanish empire.  The conference brings together junior and senior scholars to study the long Franciscan experience in Mexico on the eve of the commemoration of the quincentenary of the Spanish — and thus the Franciscan— presence in Mexico.

  Vie et survie dans le Venezuela contemporain

  La cinquième journée d’étude du GEIVEN (Groupe d’étude interdisciplinaires sur le Venezuela) portera, plus particulièrement sur les stratégies de survivance. Ces stratégies de survivance auxquelles les différents acteurs vénézuéliens ont recours pour gérer les imprévus de la vie quotidienne, prennent plusieurs formes (migration et déplacement de population à l’échelle régionale, nationale ou internationale, le recours à d’autres modes de communication, l’organisation de groupes et d’association, etc). L’enjeu de cette journée d’étude sera donc d’ouvrir le champ théorique à plusieurs disciplines, telles que l’histoire, la géographie, l’anthropologie, la sociologie, le droit, l’art, les sciences du langage, la science politique entre autres, afin de favoriser les échanges transdisciplinaires et comprendre les dimensions multiples que prennent ces stratégies de survivance dans le cas particulier du Venezuela.
