The latest in the series of CIST conferences, this 5th international conference spotlights the concept of population as a central issue in the debates within territorial sciences. The concept of population, which is central to demography and biology and more marginal for other disciplines, involves the grouping together of individual entities. Depending on the particular approach used, the preferred criterion for aggregation will be the social, territorial, biological, etc., with timescales and observation scales varying accordingly. Linking together population, time and territory in a transdisciplinary and international perspective is the main goal of this conference; beyond the fact that it represents a theoretical and methodological breakthrough, the diversity of the proposed thematic sessions is a clear sign that this trio is at the heart of contemporary issues.

Le V^e colloque du Collège international des sciences territoriales (CIST2020) - qui se tiendra du 19 au 21 novembre 2020 sur le campus Condorcet, Paris-Aubervilliers - se propose d’aborder les enjeux théoriques, méthodologiques et pratiques soulevés par la prise en compte simultanée de la population, du temps et des territoires. Ces enjeux portent notamment sur deux défis : (1) l’agrégation des actions individuelles ou des attributs des individus au sein d’une population sur un territoire, et (2) l’intégration de la dimension temporelle dans la dynamique des populations (humaines et/ou animales) et de leurs inscriptions territoriales, à différentes échelles.

La rencontre propose de revoir les hypothèses sur la production, la fonctionnalité et la circulation de ces objets de luxe, le collectionnisme et les enjeux de la conservation de ces œuvres.

This year, the meeting will benefit from the partnership of the Casa de Velázquez (Madrid). Since 2015, these Doctoral Meetings have the ambition to gather around similar issues PhD students and young Doctors working on the Bronze and Iron Age through the whole Europe.

Depuis le XIX^e siècle, la passion occidentale pour l’Amérique et ses peuples, dans toute leur diversité, à la fois géographique et sociale, a donné lieu à de nombreuses investigations anthropologiques, faisant intervenir avec succès plusieurs disciplines complémentaires telles que l’archéologie, l’ethnologie, la biologie ou encore la linguistique. Toutefois, la construction du discours scientifique ne peut être menée hors de l’histoire contemporaine, et c’est ainsi que l’étude de l’Amérique préhispanique a longtemps traîné son lot d’exégèses politiques, religieuses ou philosophiques. Cette rencontre propose donc de porter un regard à la fois rétrospectif et critique sur la construction scientifique de l’archéologie américaniste et les courants de pensées extérieurs, politiques ou idéologiques, ayant joué un rôle dans la perception moderne du passé américain.

XIIth World Congress on Earthen Architectures (Terra 2016)

Terra 2016 is the twelfth in a series of international events organised since 1972, bringing together academics, professionals and experts, and a broad audience gathering around earthen architectures. The congress is organised under the aegis of the ISCEAH Committee of ICOMOS international, in the framework of the UNESCO World Heritage Earthen Architecture Programme (WHEAP). The 2016 edition will focus mainly on issues dealing with sustainable development, particularly in urban areas. This event will gather more than 800 participants from the fields of heritage conservation, archeology, architecture and urban planning, engineering, social sciences, as well as fields related to local sustainable development and crisis intervention.

VIII edition of the International Seminar-Complutense Conference in Medieval Art

October 6, 1214. The Castilian monarch, Alfonso VIII, died on his way to Plasencia. Before the month had ended, his wife Eleanor Plantagenet followed him in the monastery of Las Huelgas in Burgos. To celebrate the eight-hundredth anniversary of their passing, the UCM’s Department of History of Art I (Medieval) organises the VIII edition of their International Seminar-Complutense Conference in Medieval Art (12-14 November 2014), under the title “Alfonso VIII and Eleanor of England, Artistic Confluences Around 1200″.
