  The politics and geopolitics of translation

  The multilingual circulation of knowledge and transnational histories of geography

  In the last fifty years, the field of the history of geography has moved from an approach dominated by National Schools to an attention to the circulation of knowledge in its multiple scales. The history of science and of geography have in the last decades incorporated concepts such as transit, networks, mobilities, the transnational, circulation, centre of calculation, spaces of knowledge, geographies of science, spatial mobility of knowledge, geographies of reading and geographies of the book. More recently, a turn has emerged towards considering the dynamics and necessities of decolonizing the history of geography. This work is turning the field of the history of geography into one of the most dynamic areas of the discipline. Yet we suggest that questions of language and translation have remained under-determined in this new field. Translation and writing have not received the same attention as, for instance, departmental histories, sites of museums, laboratories, botanic gardens, and scientific societies, for example. We suggest, therefore, that new perspectives opened up by translation studies can open new windows on the history of geography.

  Issue 16 of IdeAs magazine. Ideas from the Americas, to be published in October 2020, will focus on “The creative power of margins: the rise of black, native, and mixed-race intellectuals in the Americas, 19th-20th centuries”. We want to focus on the Black and non-white intellectual Americas. We receive proposals for articles on all countries of the American continent, in French, English, Spanish or Portuguese.

  « Cahiers de Framespa », 2019/3

  La revue Cahiers de Framespa lance un appel à contributions pour son numéro 2019/3, dont le dossier s'intitule « Le “Brésil littéraire” vu de l’étranger – perspectives transnationales (de 1822 à nos jours) ». Ce dossier souhaite approfondir la réflexion autour de la dimension connectée de l’histoire culturelle du Brésil contemporain à partir d’une perspective différente, à savoir la projection internationale des œuvres littéraires et intellectuelles brésiliennes, ces « lettres » que l’on qualifie volontiers de « Pátrias » au XIX^e siècle.

  The representation of Africans and people of African descendancy in school manuals

  Afro-decolonial perspectives - practical and theoretical issues

  Ce colloque a plusieurs objectifs. L'objectif principal est d'interroger la représentation des personnes d'ascendance africaine dans les manuels scolaires et de réflechir à la création de manuels scolaires dans lesquels ces populations seraient repésentées à leur juste valeur au sein d'une histoire pluriverselle. La rencontre questionnera toutes les disciplines et tentera d'établir un réel dialogue interdisciplinaire. Enfin, il sera question de la mise en place d'équipes de travail et de réflexion qui se réuniront après le colloque pour continuer le travail ébauché durant la rencontre.

  Pratiques et poétiques du chapitre du XIXe au XXIe siècle

  Bien qu'il soit un aspect évident de notre pratique de lecture quotidienne, le chapitre est un élément de poétique négligée par la critique, à l'exception de la thèse récente d'Ugo Dionne, La voie aux chapitres, consacrée aux modes de structuration romanesque dans l'Ancien Régime. Dionne y analyse comment le XIXe siècle voit une généralisation du chapitre, ce dernier devenant à la fois systématique et moins visible. Pourtant, le chapitre comme unité minimale du roman, comme scansion on élément structurel, sert de fil d'Ariane à l'écriture comme à la lecture. On voudrait ainsi esquisser une poétique du chapitre, en tenant ensemble les deux questions de la fabrique du texte et de sa réception, du chapitre utilisé comme moyen de production du sens et comme outil de lecture : telle est l'ambition de ce colloque.
