  Rehabilitating transnational cultural assets in Europe - Strasbourg municipal baths (1908/10)

  Perspectives for documentation and future exploitation

  Les bains municipaux de Strasbourg (1908/10) sont un parimoine culturel transnational d'un genre unique au monde. Fleuron de la politique sociale très progressiste de la municipalité alsacienne au temps du Reichsland allemand, ils comprennent deux bassins, des bains-douches, des bains romains, ainsi qu'une aile médicale. Restés quasiment intacts durant leur service ininterrompu depuis plus de cent ans, ils doivent subir une rénovation importante afin de pouvoir continuer à fonctionner. Au moment où la Ville de Strasbourg discute de la meilleure façon pour préparer ce patrimoine pour l'avenir, une perspective franco-allemande a pour objectif d'esquisser des perspectives d'action sur le fonds de rénovations qui ont déjà eu lieu en Allemagne.

  Entre menace et idéalisation : la création imaginaire des vallées dans la fondation du patrimoine mondial de l'UNESCO

  Zwischen Mythos und Verdammung: Die Entstehung und Tradierung von Bildern von Flusstälern bei UNESCO Weltkulturerbezonen

  Le colloque consiste à étudier ces zones de vallées fluviales qui ont fait l’objet d’un intérêt litteraire ou historique tout au long du XIX^e siècle, (vallée centrale du Rhin en Allemagne, vallée centrale de la Wachau en Autriche, vallée du Duero / Douro en Espagne et au Portugal, vallée de la Loire en France). C’est en effet grâce à leur histoire préalable, à la création des mythes qui les entourent que ces vallées sont devenues patrimoines mondiales de l’UNESCO. Or, aujourd’hui encore les régions fluviales en question sont justement, en raison du statut que leur a assuré l’UNESCO, contraintes de remplir les critères qui ont conduit à leur inscription à ce patrimoine. Elles doivent donc conserver, notamment à travers leur valorisation publicitaire, leur conformité à l’image spécifique qu’elles ont acquise — qu’il s’agisse de leur « romantisme », de leur « beauté », de leur « nature pacifique » ou de l’état de conservation historique des monuments qui leur donnent leur identité, et dont l’origine peut être retracée jusqu’à cette période de formation de leur image au XIX^e siècle.

  Town Twinning in Europe

  Concepts and Praxis of Rapprochement during the 20th Century

  Today there are almost 20,000 communal partnerships across Europe. In fact, they have become somewhat of a mass phenomenon since the 1960s. Despite this impressive development, historical research has shown little devotion to this particular form of international relations. Its detailed analysis, however, allows special insight into the participation of “common citizens” in international initiatives and international exchange in a communal setting. The goal of the conference is to depict the history of town twinning by challenging the concept and definition thereof. City partnerships have particularly developed in the context of bilateral rapprochement after the Second World War, the European Integration and the Cold War. Since the collapse of the Soviet bloc, they have also become a symbol for a Europe of civil partnership “from below”. Furthermore, they do not only play an important role in Europe and its relations with its neighbors, but through globalization, ultimately with the rest of the world.

  L’histoire des sens constitue actuellement l’un des champs les plus dynamiques de la recherche historique à dimension anthropologique. Se situant certes dans le sillage du visual / iconic / pictorial turn, les interrogations portent désormais davantage sur les possibilités d’historiciser l’ouïe, l’odorat, le goût et le toucher, tout en continuant à explorer la vue ; par ailleurs, l’histoire des sens propose une relecture critique de certains questionnements, plus anciens, issus de l’anthropologie historique, de l’histoire des sensibilités et de celle des mentalités.

Les travaux porteront cette année sur le paysage religieux urbain et suburbain en Occident, entre le I^e et le VIe siècle ap. J.-C.

  The advent of monarchic accounting during the Thirteenth Century requires two types of reflection. The first one deals with the personnel mobilized by the monarch, its background, training and professional and family culture. The second one is more of an inquiry into the writing methods, the conservation and consultation processes used by the institutions in charge of princely accounting, especially the Camere rationum (accounting offices).

  Saints and the City is an international, interdisciplinary workshop on urban holiness in pre-modern times in East and West. Graduates and young post-graduates will be able to present their researches as guests of the Erlangen Centre for European Medieval and Renaissance Studies IZEMIR and the DFG-Research Group "Holiness and Sanctification in the Middle Ages and the Early Modern Period. Intercultural Perspectives in Europe and Asia".
