  Associative Worlds : Grasping Politics by doing Ethnography on Associations

  Special issue 2021, vol. 47(3) of the Swiss Journal of Sociology

  This special issue aims to discuss ethnographic approaches that allow to shed light on the plurality of associations, societies and clubs. The aim is to examine the plurality of associational practices and meanings of associations, in order to contribute to a new scrutiny of the political dimension of associations. On the one hand, the papers will allow, by relying on ethnographic enquiries, to grasp the large variety of situations and worldviews that the world of associations entails, and through this, to open the way for underlying sociological questions. On the other hand, they shall question the contribution of ethnography to an exploration of the political potential of associational action - without limiting themselves to an organizational or motivational approach of the origins of an association.

  L'enfance, l'âge adulte et la vieillesse ont été étudiés par les sciences historiques sous divers angles d'approche et en relation avec des corpus de sources variés. À l'intersection de ces champs de recherche, l'approche sociale et culturelle a permis d'étudier la vie quotidienne, la construction des savoirs et les relations au corps qui jouent tous d'une manière ou d'une autre un rôle dans la conceptualisation des « âges ». Afin de dépasser les discours normatifs sur la maturité croissante de l'enfant ou le vieillissement des adultes, ce numéro spécial veut aborder trois problématiques théoriques et méthodologiques : Comment le développement de l'être humain se conçoit-il par étapes au cours de la vie en fonction de divers contextes culturels et historiques ? De quelle manière les structures sociales accompagnent-elles ces différents âges ? Comment les individus négocient-ils leurs insertions dans ces multiples contraintes normatives et institutionnelles ?
