  Heritage staging in the Germanophone space

  Le but de cette journée d’étude doctorale est d’interroger de quelles manières est mis en scène un héritage, qu’il soit politique, littéraire, artistique ou familial ; et quelles sont les spécificités de ces mises en scène au sein de l’espace germanophone. Les contributions présentées et les échanges qui auront lieu lors de cette manifestation permettront de questionner le concept de mise en scène, tout en soulignant la pluralité des héritages et de leurs articulations dans l’espace germanophone. Cette journée sera l’occasion de réfléchir sur la diversité des héritages de cette diaspora germanophone, toutes époques confondues.

  Producing maps - transborder and intercultural representations from Antiquity to the present day

  Représentations transfrontalières et interculturelles de l’Antiquité à nos jours

  The conference aims to reflect on and debate the cartography of transboundary and intercultural phenomena. Through an international lens, and drawing from multiple disciplines, it ought to contribute to the conceptualisation of maps independent of political borders by inviting us to think about them across three axes: time (How compatible have intercultural phenomena and cartographic enterprises been throughout history?), space (what are the possible approaches when mapping intercultural or cross-border phenomena depending on the area of study, of creation and of diffusion of maps?), and method (how/why can making maps show such phenomena?).

L’objectif de ce numéro est d’offrir des comparaisons à la fois diachroniques – le sujet est particulièrement adapté à une approche transpériode – et spatiales, entre pays et entre universités.

  Orient oder Rom?

  Prehistory, history and reception of a historiographical myth (1880Ð1930)

  Today the question “Orient oder Rom?” is no longer a topical issue in medieval art history, although a persuasive answer has never been formulated. One of the reasons for this oblivion deals with the controversial figure of Josef Strzygowski, who in 1901 published about the question his pivotal volume, nowadays discredited for its racial and proto-nazi judgement.However, the question “Orient oder Rom?” concerns not only with Josef Strzygowski: the prodromes of this critical concepts goes back to the nineteenth century, when the Russian, Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman empires fought to control territories. The conference aims to distance from the sole Strzygowski’s perspective and to comprehend and rewrite the story of a pivotal concept for both art historiography and cultural identity.
