  The middle classes in Arab countries

  Transformations, issues and socio-economic changes - comparative approaches

  L'accroissement du chômage des diplômés de l'enseignement supérieur, et de l'endettement, l'expansion de l'économie parallèle, la corruption galopante et la mauvaise gestion, la précarité touchant de plus en plus des franges différentes de la population ; sont tous autant de facteurs poussant encore plus fort vers une différenciation sociale inégalitaire. L'un des aboutissements de cette convergence de facteurs est la réduction-compression-effritement de la classe moyenne et la diminution de l'espace qu'elle occupait au sein d'une formation sociale, elle-même en pleine mutation ; le tout dans le sillage d'une rapide et galopante libéralisation économique. Afin d'élucider toutes ces problématiques et de les analyser. Ce colloque fait appel aux approches multidisciplinaires et ce dans le but d'approfondir le débat scientifique à propos de la classe moyenne dans les pays arabes.

  How Economics matter

  L'an V des Révolutions au prisme de l'économique et du social

  This colloquium, organized in Beirut as part of the WAFAW program, aims to critically take part in a debate over the socio-economic undergrounds of the “political crises” in the region, a scarcely explored angle when dealing with this issue. It will base its contribution on investigations and original corpuses. Its purpose is to better understand how the Arab, Iranian, Turkish and other political societies observed are workedby highly singular processes (such as the importance of oil, of migration economy, or of war economies) but also amenable to an unequal globalization of exchanges. How (and not why) does the economy play into these political dynamics?
