  Language, culture & media in the Mediterranean

  Genres, Taste, Scents and Colors

  Pour sa cinquième édition, le congrès international Langues, cultures et médias en Méditerranée prend comme thématique centrale de recherche Genres, goûts, odeurs et couleurs. Pour rappel, les quatre précédentes éditions (2010, 2012, 2014, 2016) se sont focalisées sur les formes, les sens, les usages, les représentations et leurs développements, aussi bien dans la langue, le discours, les textes que les médias. S’inscrivant dans la continuité de ces thématiques, la cinquième édition s’intéressera aux notions de genres, goûts, odeurs et couleurs en Méditerranée. Si l’on s’accorde à dire que ces notions, faisant d’abord partie du lexique, sont des phénomènes de perception, elles sont aussi des faits sociétaux et des constructions culturelles complexes en étroite relation avec les contextes culturel, temporel et spatial. Ce sont ces contextes qui font ces notions, ils leur donnent leurs définitions et leurs sens, construisent leurs codes et leurs valeurs, organisent leurs pratiques et déterminent leurs enjeux.

  Translation tools at the dawn of the XXIst century: what are the prospects?

  Translators nowadays have a variety of translation support tools that facilitate their task, helping them to optimize work and save time. Computer-aided translation (CAT), specialized databases, multilingual terminology, dictionaries, concordances, are all language industries that generated professions related to the job of translator, such as the neologist, the terminologist, the multilingual proofreader and the like. Furthermore, will the communication society looming on our horizon opt for one language, “Globish” for example (see "Talk Globish The planetary English of the third millennium" in John Paul Nerrière) or two or three languages to the detriment of all the others? Or, will linguistic diversity and the consequent need for translation prove to be inevitable? What is the position of the Arabic language amidst all that? The symposium will endeavour  to provide answers to all these questions that may be evoked by translation activity, especially those linked to the future of the Arabic language.
