  Considering the eclecticism that defines cognitive literary studies as beneficial, we invite literary critics as well as researchers from all branches of cognitive science interested in this field to reflect together on the status, the theories, the methodologies and the challenges that cognitive literary studies are currently facing.

  Contemporary American Fiction in the Face of Technical Innovation

  Cette conférence se propose d'interroger les relations de la fiction américaine aux innovations qui ont marqué les premières décennies du XXI^e siècle : internet, médias sociaux, objets et environnements intelligents, intelligence artificielle, nanotechnologies, ingénierie génétique et autres biotechnologies, transhumanisme. Ces innovations techniques redéfinissent la manière dont nous habitons notre monde, interagissons les uns avec les autres et appréhendons l'humain dans son rapport de plus en plus étroit à la machine, non plus, comme autrefois, soigné ou réparé, mais désormais augmenté ou remplacé. Qu'en est-il alors de nos pratiques artistiques et culturelles ? Ces avancées récentes modifient-ils la langue et la littérature ?

  Language, Cognition and Creativity

  8th International Biennial Conference of the French Association for Cognitive Linguistics (AFLiCo)

  We welcome 20 minute presentations (with 8 minutes for follow-up questions) from researchers interested in linguistic creativity. Interdisciplinary papers are welcome which address verbal creativity in conversations, humor, written communication, the verbal arts, multimodal forms, gestures, etc. Because creativity is of interest to many different researchers (see scientific statement below), we also welcome papers from those working on creativity in fields such as psycholinguistics, sociolinguistics, corpus linguistics, pragmatics, and psychology. The organizers especially encourage young researchers to submit an abstract. Presentations may be made in French or English.

  Abraham Ibn Ezra, a Twelfth-Century Polymath who Straddled Arabic, Hebrew and Latin Culture

  In the middle of the eighth century, with the completion of the Islamic conquest of the eastern, northern and part of the western shores of the Mediterranean, Jews managed to successfully integrate into the ruling society without losing their religious and national identity. They willingly adopted the Arabic language, spoke Arabic fluently, wrote Arabic in Hebrew letters (Judeo-Arabic), and employed Arabic in the composition of their literary works. The twelfth century witnessed a cultural phenomenon that saw Jewish scholars gradually abandon the Arabic language and adopt Hebrew, previously used almost exclusively for religious and liturgical purposes, for the first time as a vehicle for the expression of secular and scientific ideas.
