  Cette journée d'étude se donne pour but de considérer les stratégies mises en œuvre par la littérature de voyage entre les XVI^e et XIX^e siècles afin de représenter la figure de l'autre, qu'il s'agisse de stratégies textuelles ou visuelles. Tous les domaines linguistiques et culturels pourront être considérés afin de construire un tableau aussi large que possible de la manière dont l'autre est appréhendé par les récits des voyageurs à l'époque moderne.

  Digital archiving in the Arab world

  Digital archiving in the Arab world acts as a major channel of knowledge transmission in the present day. As the practice grows, new archival challenges emerge and act as a catalyst for innovation and development of new technologies. The International Digital Archiving Conference in the Arab World is to be held in Abu Dhabi, October 26-27, 2019. It is the first Digital Archiving conference to be organized by the CEDEJ, Egypt (Centre d’études et de documentation économiques, juridiques et sociales) in collaboration with Bibliotheca Alexandrina and CEFAS (Centre français d’archéologie et de sciences sociales). The conference’s aim is to provide an exploratory gateway of the fast-growing interdisciplinaryfield of digital archiving in the Arab world.

  New Perspectives on Global Environmental Images

  The international conference proposes to mobilise a broad variety of perspectives from a large disciplinary spectrum in order to analyse the strategies and imaginaries that are connected to the production, the circulation and the power of global environmental images. From icons of the environmental movement over expert graphics mobilised by the IPCC to satellite imagery, global environmental images form the sensory basis of our understanding of the planetary processes that govern the “Anthropocene”. The images all actively participate, at very different scales, in our interpretation and understanding of the changes of the Earth system as well as the consequences we closely associate to global climate change. As true mediators between different publics and cultures, between global processes and local impacts, new critical enquiries into global environmental images propose a highly fruitful discussion of the complex relationship between science, society, politics and nature.
