History and polemics: historiographical debates and the public space

Ever since history became an academic knowledge, historiographical debates have been exceptional moments of construction, condensation and dissensus, often resulting in historiographical turns. Controversies around specific themes have divided entire fields of knowledge production, bringing into light different, often contrasting conceptions, methodologies and practices of historical knowledge. Such debates were, at the same time, moments in which the description and interpretation of the past represented a public intervention in the present, in which the defense of a certain way of making sense of history was also a way of taking of sides in a specific contemporary political discussion. Historiographical polemics were therefore moments in which historiographical knowledge had to confront in the public space other approaches to the past, thus making visible, and challenging, the paradigms that rule the historical discipline and public history.

Le colloque organisée par l'Institut d'Histoire Contemporaine de NOVA FCSH cherchera à répondre à des questions telles que: quelles idées communes, quels buts et quelles attitudes exprimés par la presse satirique ont façonné le concept de nation? Qui étaient les "autres" représentés par l’image satirique par opposition à "nous"? Comment les visions et les représentations de «l'autre» par opposition au «soi» exprimées par l'image satirique ont-elles aidé à définir les identités nationales, à construire la notion de communauté et à façonner les stéréotypes nationaux ?

Today, talking about social networks, puts us on a new paradigm in the social sciences. In the dynamics of social relations, the actors involved in it, develop their interactions driven by diverse logics and strategies of action, putting challenges in their analysis and understanding to social intervenors and the academic community. It is in this context that the 2nd edition of CIReS.

Quelle est la situation et le statut de la langue française dans l’enseignement et dans la communication en général ? Le rayonnement du Français est à présent surtout le fait d’un combat volontariste sur le terrain, d’une politique d’intervention créative dans laquelle s’engagent plusieurs acteurs. Ceci dit, le sort international de la langue française ne peut qu’être fonction d’une politique linguistique cohérente, ambitieuse et inventive, à même de souligner l’utilité, la spécificité et le plus de cette langue dans le contexte actuel. Aussi s’avère-t-il pertinent d’articuler ces deux pôles de l’approche de la présence du français au Portugal, et ailleurs, afin de dégager comparativement les problématiques, les stratégies et les atouts de l’usage et de l’enseignement-apprentissage de cette langue qui nous tient à cœur, et d’aboutir à une réflexion systématisée sur le sujet.
