  European landscapes and the quality of life?

  Permanent European Conference for the Study of the Rural Landscape (PECSRL)

  We are pleased to announce the 28th session of the Permanent European Conference for the Study of the Rural Landscape (PESCRL), to be held on 3–8 September 2018 in Clermont-Ferrand and Mende, France. The PESCRL 2018 aims to progress discussion and learning within the community involved in landscapes and territorial development. The general theme encompasses the interactions between quality of landscapes, and quality of life, with a broad sense of this notion, including healthy environment, diversified and freely accessible, friendly social relationships, and good connections with cultural and heritage dimensions. The landscape occupies a key place because it is the visible result of human practices and activities inside a local area but it is also the vector of cultural and social values that contribute to create or reinforce a local identity.

  Metropolises, intermediary cities and rural spaces - what interactions for territorial development?

  Ce colloque souhaite insister sur la portée et les conditions de production des interactions entre métropoles, villes intermédiaires et espaces ruraux. L’hypothèse sous-jacente est que le fait métropolitain offre des opportunités de développement, pour autant que chaque espace puisse continuer à se développer et à attirer durablement des populations et des activités, ce qui interroge sur de nouveaux systèmes de gouvernance des métropoles, sur le développement de fortes coopérations interterritoriales et de nouvelles formes d’ingénierie territoriale voire de régulation.

  Medicine and health in the countryside

  Modern and contemporary periods

  Les « déserts médicaux » ont été mis sous les projecteurs par le « pacte territoire santé » proposé par le ministère français de la Santé à l’automne 2013. Toutefois, la réalité de cette insuffisante présence médicale n’est ni nouvelle, ni uniforme. Comment et par qui les ruraux ont-ils été soignés au fil des siècles ? Quels efforts ont été menés pour lutter contre les maladies présentes dans les campagnes ? Quels en ont été les objectifs affichés ou cachés ? Quels enseignements les politiques publiques actuelles peuvent-elles tirer des expériences historiques ? Telles sont les questions auxquelles ce colloque voudrait apporter des éléments de réponse en croisant diverses expériences en Europe, et dans le monde de la Renaissance à nos jours.

  Médecine et santé dans les campagnes du Moyen Âge à nos jours

  The goal of this conference is to understand better the health and medical situation in rural areas in France, as well as across Europe and its colonies, all the while challenging the processes of medicalization at work and the very concept of medicalization.  It seeks especially to analyze medical practices as well as knowledge, their flows and networks as well as institutions, in a dynamic perspective from the medieval period to the present. Special attention will be paid not only to the legacy of the past but also to paradigm changes in order to bring to light the ways in which the contemporary organization of rural medicine has been constructed and what we may learn from the choices made in different historical periods.
