Tourism and international labels. Protection and commercialization
UNESCO's labels (World Heritage, Biosphere Reserves, Creative Cities, Global Geoparks) have been created, amongst other reasons, to ensure the sustainable development of areas with special characteristics. Each label has specific objectives, be it conservation or protection, education, or networking of these areas. While these labels have not been designed to contribute to the commercialization of tourism, many destinations enjoy the prestige, reputation, and guarantee of quality or exceptionality associated with these labels to attract visitors, residents, and investors. Some site managers also use these labels to educate residents and visitors about their specific characteristics. The use of these international labels in a marketing context therefore poses a large number of challenges, both from practical and theoretical points of view.

The Caribbean city, the unknown. Heterogeneous human settlements, legacies of the colonial era, refuge of the disadvantaged and homeless, mixed and fragmented, and the showcases of Caribbean tourism, the urban Caribbean presents itself as the economic ambition of these insular territories and other shores bathed by the Caribbean sea. The Caribbean city, a chaotic juxtaposition of modernity and the colonial past, and existing both as a social and political symbol, opens up a rich and immense new area. Sometimes characterized by European allure, the remainder of Africa - some may say -, American city - without a doubt -, hybrid format, the Caribbean city presents a particular subject of study.

Waste Sciences, Knowledges and Practices
European, North and Latin American perspectives
Waste has emerged as a main environmental, economic and social issue in the last fifty years. The convergence of interests from various fields of reflection and action suggests a potential and fruitful “epistemological turn”. Yet this process is still on the verge of formalization. Research and decision on waste organizational and representational systems remain either fragmented or dependent on local context though some waste management recommendations arise from worries on the global consequences of discard. Hence this international symposium aims at opening transatlantic conversations between academic, technical and artistic areas in order to clarify how waste challenges our everyday sciences, knowledges and practices.

This call for papers of the Études Caribéennes Journal invites to establish a current situation of the sailing, in all its dimensions: places of sailing, spaces and practices, industry of the yatching, events, development of marinas with economic impacts and environmental issues. It’s a matter of building a multidisciplinary reflection on the sailing.

Tourisme, coopérations scientifiques et techniques, extractions de ressources, migrations sont autant de ponts tracés entre le centre géographique des Amériques et son extrémité septentrionale. Plus récemment, c’est dans les secteurs de la préservation de l’environnement, de la participation aux projets régionaux de développement, des migrations transnationales et de l’étude des mémoires partagées que ces relations transcontinentales opèrent leurs mutations afin de se présenter comme des éléments essentiels à la compréhension de « notre Amérique ».

The topic is open to all contributions related to the tourism development of natural resources in the fields of geography, political science, economics, sociology and ecology.

Mass tourism versus Alternative tourism
The objective of this thematic issue is to call for various and renewed approaches which develop analysis in terms of the economy, regional planning, sociology, geography etc. Articles may propose a theoretical reflection or focus on case studies, dealing with the relations of mass tourism, alternative tourism, or to illustrate one of these two aspects. Priorities fields will not exclusively be Caribbean and American but can come from any part of the world and can illustrate post and/or present situations.

La revue accepte des articles originaux écrits en français et en espagnol. Observer et comprendre l'appropriation implique que l'on considère plusieurs dimensions : économique, politique, culturelle et urbaine. Le dialogue entre l'architecture, les sciences de l’espace et les sciences humaines, tel qu’il est engagé par la revue Márgenes, propose d’envisager ces perspectives intersubjectives, mais aussi de s’interroger sur l’agir, dès lors que les acteurs de la fabrique de la ville se confrontent autour de l'appropriation de l’espace.

Sociétés journal devotes its next issue to the subject of “the ruin”. This issue aims to revisit and extend the notion of ruin considering its spatial, social, architectural, and urban imaginary. A Ruin is a representation and a pictorial resource of the landscape, is a metaphysical way of thought, a purpose and a primitive view. In this sense, memory, architecture and symbol, life and death, decay and rebirth, time and duration, rust and bones, the eternal communication, previous utopia and inner experience, the decomposition and recomposition, ecosophy and economics of conflict, obsolescence and "affordance", are some of the subjects that derive from ruin as status quo: an 'imaginal' foundation of the romanticism and a sensitivity of our contemporaneous world.
