Americas Institute - Call for doctoral contracts (2021-2024)

Afin de soutenir des actions de coopération internationale dans le domaine universitaire et scientifique, chaque année des contrats doctoraux sont attribués par le ministère de l’Enseignement supérieur, de la Recherche et de l’Innovation (M.E.S.R.I) au titre du partenariat avec l’Institut des Amériques (IdA). Dans ce cadre, l'Institut des Amériques lance un appel à candidature pour les cinq contrats doctoraux qui seront attribués pour la période universitaire 2021-2024.

Drawing as testimony: wars and dictatorships in Spain and Latin America

Nous proposons de coordonner un numéro qui cherchera à étudier les spécificités du dessin (tous types de dessin, qu’il s’agisse d’images fixes ou animées, articulées avec du texte ou dépourvues de mots, publiées officiellement ou diffusées de manière illégale dans l’espace public) en tant que moyen d’expression et de communication en contexte de guerre et de dictature en Espagne et en Amérique latine. Nous interrogerons la capacité d'engagement politique, sociale et intime exprimée à travers le dessin et les nuances de ses modalités d’emploi par les régimes autoritaires, leurs opposants ou les différents camps en conflit. Nous nous demanderons dans quelle mesure le dessin peut capter l’instant, du croquis à la caricature en passant par le carnet de voyage, les productions numériques ou le fast-draw, et se faire l’instrument du témoignage ou du reportage.

Population, Time, Territories

The latest in the series of CIST conferences, this 5th international conference spotlights the concept of population as a central issue in the debates within territorial sciences. The concept of population, which is central to demography and biology and more marginal for other disciplines, involves the grouping together of individual entities. Depending on the particular approach used, the preferred criterion for aggregation will be the social, territorial, biological, etc., with timescales and observation scales varying accordingly. Linking together population, time and territory in a transdisciplinary and international perspective is the main goal of this conference; beyond the fact that it represents a theoretical and methodological breakthrough, the diversity of the proposed thematic sessions is a clear sign that this trio is at the heart of contemporary issues.

Population, time, territories (CIST2020)

Le V^e colloque du Collège international des sciences territoriales (CIST2020) - qui se tiendra du 19 au 21 novembre 2020 sur le campus Condorcet, Paris-Aubervilliers - se propose d’aborder les enjeux théoriques, méthodologiques et pratiques soulevés par la prise en compte simultanée de la population, du temps et des territoires. Ces enjeux portent notamment sur deux défis : (1) l’agrégation des actions individuelles ou des attributs des individus au sein d’une population sur un territoire, et (2) l’intégration de la dimension temporelle dans la dynamique des populations (humaines et/ou animales) et de leurs inscriptions territoriales, à différentes échelles.

Freedom of Expression in the Digital Age. Between Infox and Artificial Intelligence

Les nouvelles technologies ne doivent, ni être acceptées avec une naïveté grégaire, ni être rejetées dans une opposition idéologique systématique. Elles sont là, nous les utilisons tous. L’objectif de ce congrès est avec la communauté scientifique internationale d’interroger les pratiques actuelles et leurs conséquences sur la liberté d’expression qui sont au cœur du fonctionnement des démocraties. Ce congrès s’inscrit dans la continuité des travaux que l’Unesco mène depuis plusieurs années sur cette thématique notamment la publication annuelle d’un observatoire sur les Tendances mondiales en matière de liberté d’expression et de développement des médias. Les travaux seront regroupés autour de quatre thématiques : les définitions, les lieux, les personnes et les thèmes transversaux.

For its 11th issue, RITA proposes to interrogate the links between power and media in the Americas. Several areas of debate can be suggested, although they should not be considered as exclusive. Articles making a critical analysis of official media as well as opposition media, in varied historical and geographical contexts, will of course be welcome. Other articles may deal with the treatment of popular movements by the media. Critical reflections on the relationship between media and economic power are also encouraged. The Thema section can also include analysis of the current diversification of information media by focusing, for instance, on the emergence of “alternative” media on the Internet, or on the power of fake news over the construction of collective representations.

Spanish Civil War has been studied under its multiple angles. This can also be said about the literature concerning this topic: novels, poems, and all literary forms generated by this armed conflict (both by Spanish and foreign intellectuals) have been commented by academic criticism from both sides of the Atlantic Ocean. However, fewer approaches have set the axis of their critical focus on the importance of the Spanish conflict in America and its decisive relevance as a part of a phenomenon that is also American. This special number of the FORMA journal sets out to give a voice to all types of contributions able to shed a new light on this fundamental aspect of the war, whose causes and consequences are clearly rooted in Spain, but whose horizon overflows the peninsular and continental borders and requires an inevitably transatlantic point of view.

Communication in the tourist industry today is diverse and, from a tourist’s point of view, very confusing. The Conference aims to provide a critical dialogue beyond disciplinary boundaries: Communication research, Geography, Cultural Studies, History, Sociology and Tourism Studies. Script is not a neutral communication medium. Scripts were particularly used throughout the Middle Ages to stage the idea of Empire, power and domination. The writing has the ability to connote authority and Empire and to inspire respect. On the other hand, the scriptural domain is a world in itself with its coherence and history. The idea of an ‘Empire of letters’ may have emerged within this world too. Both parts of this “empire of letters” are relevant for the palaeographical sessions on the specific thematic strand of ‘Empire’ organised at the International Medieval Congress 2014 in Leeds and sponsored by Apices and Cap Digital.

À l’occasion du quarantième anniversaire du coup d’État militaire du 11 septembre 1973 contre le gouvernement de Salvador Allende au Chili, l’association de doctorants en études cinématographiques Les Trois lumières organise deux journées d’étude. Prévues pour les 9 et 10 octobre 2013 à l’INHA, elles seront consacrées à la représentation cinématographique de la politique du gouvernement d’Unité populaire et de la répression, de 1973 jusqu’à la transition démocratique, ainsi qu’aux manifestations de solidarité internationale des milieux cinématographiques avant et après le putsch.
