Policing and Territories across Napoleonic Europe
From Local to Imperial Scale
Ce colloque international a pour objectif d’interroger le lien entre la police et l’espace impérial napoléonien, en étudiant l’administration, les pratiques policières et le contrôle du territoire dans les départements dits « de l’intérieur », dans ceux annexés, ainsi que dans les différents espaces placés sous contrôle impérial, comme les États satellites et les territoires ultra-marins. Il ambitionne de mette en lumière la diversité des configurations policières et leurs évolutions dans l’Empire, en comparant plusieurs profils d’espaces. Un premier axe d’étude cherche à questionner l’existence ou non d’un système policier centralisé, en réinterrogeant le rapport entre centre et périphérie(s). Un second axe d’études interroge les connexions policières à l’échelle impériale à travers l’examen de plusieurs cas de figure.

PhD students from the XXXIV cycle of the joint PhD Programme in Historical, Geographical, Anthropological Studies (University of Padova, Ca' Foscari Venice, Verona) are happy to invite you to their conference, titled "Crises and Infrastructures: Responses to Change Between Materiality and Immateriality. A Dialogue Between Anthropology, Geography and History". We will be exploring the interactions between various examples of Crises and Infrastructural response, trying to push for an interdisciplinary dialogue. We aim to reflect not only on the role of infrastructures as means of problem-solving, but also on the varied outcomes of critical moments. From quarries to rock-cut sites. Echoes of stone crafting
The conference aims at carrying on the international debate on the archaeological investigation of rock-cut spaces and stone quarries, considered as aspects of the same mining phenomenon: places in which specific empirical and handcrafted knowledge related to stone working is expressed and conveyed. The conference envisages a diachronic approach and therefore all case studies are welcome, without chronological limits.

Intersections. New perspectives for public humanities
HFC-INT 2020
The international network Humanities for Change, in accordance with the interdisciplinary spirit and the contaminatory approach that characterize its activities, intends to organize a day of study on the theme of public humanities. The meeting aims to stimulate some reflections coming from different fields of knowledge and to encourage the dialogue between researchers on the possibilities of the humanities to escape from academic circles. In this sense, the main object of study is the analysis of methodologies and tools related to knowledge dissemination practices for historical, artistic and philological-literary disciplines. Particular attention will also be given to new professional figures connected to the degree courses of the humanities faculties (such as the 'public historian') and to the interactions of these professional figures with the new media of communication and mass dissemination.

Religiousness in Mediterrranean towns (12th-15th century)
Ce quatrième atelier de formation doctorale s’inscrit dans le prolongement direct de la scuola di alti studi dottorali qui, de 2004 à 2016, a constitué un lieu de formation de pointe pour les jeunes chercheurs consacrant leurs recherches à l’étude de la culture locale. L’objectif des ateliers est l’étude des sociétés urbaines du Moyen Âge, en mettant l’accent sur les systèmes politiques et les différentes manifestations de l’imaginaire urbain et en portant le regard sur toutes les villes du bassin méditerranéen – celles de l’Occident chrétien, celles de la zone d’influence byzantine et celles des régions sous domination islamique. Les ateliers offrent un environnement stimulant pour les échanges intellectuels entre spécialistes réputés et jeunes chercheurs en formation, pour favoriser, à travers des moments de discussion et d’échange, le renouvellement de la recherche et l’élargissement des perspectives comparatives.

In line with the Italian Public History Manifesto, approved after our association’s meeting in Pisa in June 2018, AIPH intends to contribute to the affirmation of a greater awareness of the value of historical knowledge, an essential resource for understanding the present, planning of the future and exercising full citizenship. The 4th AIPH National Conference of Venice-Mestre will create new opportunities for discussion and reflection between those who work with the past. The conference will examine ways in which history is present in society today, from universities to public places, in schools and learning institutions, in high and in popular culture and, finally, in the daily life of our communities.

International migrations and labour from the 70s to the present
Since the 70s the presence of migrants in Europe, and especially in Italy, has become a structural issue and has been at the center of the public and political debate. The progressive demolition of welfare systems, the job precariousness, and new consumer lifestyles have generated different responses in terms of regulation of the admissions of foreign citizens in search of a job and their management (housing issues, access to health care, etc.). Both with regard to organization of forms of protection of immigrants in the exercise of theirs fundamental rights, especially in cases of serious discrimination and exploitation (immigrant associations, trade union action, etc.).

L’appel à communication a pour objectif de réunir des études portant sur des édifices parlants, c’est-à-dire documentés par des textes et des images évoquant directement ou indirectement les discussions dont ils ont fait l’objet lors de leur construction, leur entretien ou même leur démolition. Le contexte administratif de ces discussions et le profil des acteurs qui y participent sera restitué afin de comprendre sur quoi se fonde l’expertise de ceux qui, architectes ou non, parlent d’architecture. Une présentation générale du thème de l’expertise en architecture, centrée sur Paris et sur Venise, sera assurée par les organisateurs du colloque. Nous recherchons des études de cas localisées dans les principales provinces du royaume de France et les différents états italiens au cours des XVIIe et XVIIIe siècles.

Cet atelier doctoral de cinq jours permettra d’interroger la place des minorités dans des espaces et des temps divers. Alors que l’Europe n’en finit pas de se confronter à la question de la place qu’elle peut et qu’elle veut faire à des minorités extrêmement diverses (nationales, ethniques, religieuses, immémorialement implantées ou à peine arrivées, etc.), il paraît nécessaire de réfléchir aujourd’hui à la place des minorités sur la longue durée et de manière critique – c’est-à-dire, d’abord, en soumettant à une réflexion critique la notion de « minorité », trop couramment acceptée sans examen.

Cette manifestation examine une modalité essentielle du gouvernement royal, passé un seuil territorial de domination et d’éloignement de l’agent, où l’enjeu est l’effectivité de la décision : qu’est-ce qui lie l’officier en charge d’une mission spéciale, d’un territoire particulier, à la volonté royale ? Qu’est-ce qui anime l’unité d’un appareil administratif évoluant à l’échelle de vastes principautés, et surtout la maintient ? Comment tenir ses officiers ? Quels rôles jouent le gage, la solde et les rémunérations matérielles ? Par là, comment se représente-t-on l’organisation administrative et ses rouages ? Le modèle organiciste est-il là aussi à l’œuvre ? C’est la cohésion de tout appareil d’État et sa capacité à agir sur le réel qui irrigue chacune de ces interrogations.

Ethnomusicology and heritage - SEMEP 2016/2017
SEMEP 2016/2017
Le Séminaire en ethnomusicologie et patrimonialisation (SEMEP) souhaite renforcer les relations en ethnomusicologie et en anthropologie musicale entre la France et l’Italie, à travers des activités spécialement destinées aux étudiants du deuxième et troisième cycles. Ce « multi-séminaire » possède une vocation transfrontalière, interdisciplinaire et transculturelle. Il se veut un moment d’échanges entre experts de deux pays et d’approfondissement de thèmes au cœur du débat scientifique international contemporain. Après avoir examiné, l’année dernière, l’histoire et l’ethnomusicologie de la patrimonialisation musicale en Italie et en France, le sujet de cette seconde édition 2016-2017 du SEMEP est dédié à la patrimonialisation des objets sonores et des instruments de musique.

Call for articles in the Mélanges de l’École française de Rome – Italie et Méditerranée
Le renouveau qu’a connu l’histoire des sciences en Italie et l’intérêt particulier qui a été porté à leurs interactions avec le politique ont permis de réintégrer la science à l’histoire de la construction nationale italienne au cours du XIXe siècle. Le dossier des Mélanges de l'École française de Rome Italie-Méditerranée a vocation à poursuivre ce mouvement en s’interrogeant sur les dynamiques transnationales à l’œuvre dans la construction d’une « science nationale ». En quoi la circulation de savants italiens à l’étranger, d’étrangers en Italie, de savoirs sur la nature, sur l’Italie ou sur l’étranger ont-ils contribué à faire émerger et à construire une science italienne ? Dans un pays en cours d’unification politique et en quête de reconnaissance internationale, la science est en élément fondamental de l’image que l’Italie a d’elle-même et qu’elle projette à l’étranger. Le projet entend donc éclairer le rôle des circulations transnationales – de savants, d’étudiants, de livres, d’idées – dans la construction nationale italienne.

Construction, influence, evolution
The gathering organised at Ariano Irpino will examine in particular the historiographical constructions developed since the 17th century by looking at the place of the "Normans" in the "national story" of each country. It will also evaluate their influence on our knowledge of the history of the Norman worlds. What axioms have influenced the historiographical debates? Beyond their identification and classification, it is also important to understand their genealogy, their implications, their pervasiveness, their rejection and their deconstruction. The colloquium will also look to explore the orientation of a history of the Norman worlds developed from questions that go beyond national boundaries, schools and academic traditions.

History, approaches and comparative methodologies in France and Italy
Si d’une part la patrimonialisation de « biens immatériels », dans les cas musicaux, visant principalement comme processus institutionnalisé d’identification, de collecte de données et de recherche, de mise en valeur, de transmission et de revitalisation d’un certain patrimoine à sauvegarder, est sans doute aujourd’hui un des principaux terrains de réflexion et d’action des ethnomusicologues et anthropologues de la musique, de l’autre cette thématique offre la possibilité d’étendre la réflexion également aux normes statutaire de la discipline.

Dans le monde ancien, l’exigence d’accomplir des actes de purification, liés au besoin d’expier une faute ou d’accompagner un changement de statut, est perçue comme capitale dans beaucoup de circonstances. Les mots miasma et catharsis utilisés pour désigner respectivement la souillure et la purification, englobent de fait une dimension beaucoup plus articulée, qui se situe entre les sphères de compétence du pur et de l’impur. Les occasions qui prescrivaient le recours à des rites de purification étaient en rapport avec des phases liminaires de la vie, telle la naissance, la mort, mais aussi le mariage, ou encore avec les festivités religieuses. La mort était par exemple considérée l’une des principales sources de souillure. Le miasma qui l’accompagnait pouvait contaminer les dieux et les hommes, les vivants et les morts. Tous devaient alors indifféremment se soumettre aux rituels de purification. Les divinités elles-mêmes n’hésitaient pas à prendre les distances des individus contaminés, comme Artémis, lorsqu’elle abandonne son favori, Hippolyte, à son destin.

The Mediterranean: young people, migrations and development
The aim of the international conference on youth, migrations and development around the Mediterranean, is to highlight the new interdisciplinary research perspectives that are currently emerging on these issues. The conference seeks to bring together members of the scientific community as well as civil society and institutional actors who are interested in the relationship between young people, migrations and development in the Mediterranean area. More specifically, its main objective is to provide a broad overview of the current state of research on three specific populations: descendants of migrants (the so-called “second generation”); children of refugees; unaccompanied minors.
