  Afin de contribuer au renouvellement des interprétations sur l’indépendance des pays andins en vue des célébrations de 2021, on dépassera les explications qui ont marqué la seconde moitié du XX^e siècle, à savoir de pays à la dérive et d’une indépendance concédée en révisant deux siècles d'histoire coloniale et républicaine, des Lumières à la Belle Époque selon la périodisation française. Par leur approche pluridisciplinaire, les communications s’appuieront sur des textes inédits ou inexplorés, des auto-documents de nature non fictionnelle – rapports militaires, correspondances diplomatiques, chroniques religieuses, récits de voyage, mémoires, etc. –  ou des documents iconographiques.

  Canada – Quebec – Caribbean: transamerican connections

  Les liens entre la région Caraïbe, la province de Québec et le Canada sont anciens et diversifiés. Tourisme, coopérations scientifiques et techniques, extractions de ressources, migrations sont autant de ponts tracés entre le centre géographique des Amériques et son extrémité septentrionale. Plus récemment, c’est dans les secteurs de la préservation de l’environnement, de la participation aux projets régionaux de développement, des migrations transnationales et de l’étude des mémoires partagées que ces relations transcontinentales opèrent leurs mutations afin de se présenter comme des éléments essentiels à la compréhension de « notre Amérique ».

  Call for papers - History

  Merchants, jurists and other "intermediate groups" in Early Modern Southern Europe

  Merchants, farmers, jurists, clerks in large institutions, secretaries, independent landowners, local elites and highly sought master craftsmen, among many others, are individuals with an ambiguous social status. Looking at who was not born exactly noble, nor exactly commoner, but stood on the border between one world and the other, is one of the goals of this initiative. As part of a project developed in Portugal focusing on the Holy Office’s familiaturas, it will be held on September 16 and 17, 2015, a workshop at Escuela Española de Historia and Archaeological in Rome. Our aim is to select a total of 8 applicants, that will be joined by 4 guest speakers, for a joint reflection on the dynamics and profiles of ‘intermediate groups’, as well as on the methodologies for their study in Early Modern Times.

  Purity and Impurity

  Hamsa. Journal of Judaic and Islamic Studies, nº 2

  “Purity” and “Impurity” establish themselves as structural categories in both Islam and Judaism, embracing dimensions as diverse as the body, food, clothing and even space itself. The 2^nd issue of the journal Hamsa will be devoted to this wide-ranging theme, seeking to obtain diachronic historical perspectives. To this effect, we aim to promote the analysis of interfaith relationships, in those instances where purity and impurity are projected in contacts with the Other. Those dimensions concern not only the minorities, but also affect Christianitas itself, through interiorization of these concepts and their application to minority communities (as is the case, for example, with limpeza de sangue - “cleanliness of blood”).

  Iberian circulation on a global scale

  À l’époque moderne, le Portugal et l’Espagne sont aux premières loges de la « première mondialisation » et les sujets des rois ibériques migrent et circulent vers d’autres continents emportant leur culture, leur religion, leurs goûts, leurs préjugés, leurs intérêts, leurs pratiques et représentations de l’altérité. Les travaux les plus récents s’écartent des approches à l’échelle nationale ou des schémas centre-périphéries pour mettre l’accent sur ce qui cimente l’empire et en fait un espace polycentrique : les circulations de toutes sortes donnent en effet corps aux monarchies planétaires de l’époque moderne. Le propos de ce dossier est donc d’analyser de manière plus précise les circulations qui relient les hommes et les espaces et font des monarchies de véritables constructions politiques, sociales et culturelles. Nous nous attacherons plus aux « circulations ordinaires », celles qui concernent l’ensemble des sujets des monarchies espagnoles et portugaises (et parfois leurs voisins).

  Communication in the tourist sector: strategies for all participants in the areas of tourism

  International conference

  Although the tourism communication concept is still to be defined precisely, this international conference aims at exploring the relationships between communication strategies for those who are involved in the tourism industry and tourists. A further complication is that lots of areas are more and more very proposed with a particular identifying emblem. Communication in the tourist industry today is diverse and, from a tourist’s point of view, very confusing. The Conference aims to provide a critical dialogue beyond disciplinary boundaries: Communication research, Geography, Cultural Studies, History, Sociology and Tourism Studies. We’d like to investigate in particular the areas and the actions of communication in the tourist sector.
