Cuando las mujeres filman: el documental en la peninsula iberica y en el continente latinoamericano
En una perspectiva transdisciplinaria, el presente coloquio apunta a repensar los marcos epistemológicos del análisis de la imagen documental. ¿Qué estrategias narrativas y qué estéticas han sido implementadas para llevar a la pantalla temas prohibidos o eludir la censura? ¿Qué papel han jugado los colectivos de mujeres en la organización de la producción? ¿Qué ha pasado con ellos? ¿Cómo han circulado o no las obras entre países culturalmente cercanos en los cuales imperan cadenas de televisión muy poderosas? ¿Cómo han contribuido de hecho determinadas películas al enriquecimiento y redefinición de la antropología cultural, en sociedades pluriétnicas? ¿Cómo pensar a gran escala la conservación, restauración y utilización de documentales hechos en soporte video, que pocas veces son objeto de políticas de conservación?

The Hydraulics in Monumental Buildings
The hydraulic system is an architectural subsystem that can only be understood in view of the dual constitution of its structure: one at ground level, that referrers to potable water (lower hydraulic subsystem), and other concerning rainwater (upper hydraulic subsystem). They both involve aspects of major importance for the functioning of any building: catchment, distribution and evacuation of the waters. In the last decade, research was carried out on the hydraulic component of historical architecture, either religious or civil, considering technical and artistic issues, not only in Portugal, but throughout Europe.

La época del espacio. Estado y nuevas perspectivas
A lo largo de la segunda mitad del siglo XX se produjo una reorientación de la mirada humana y del interés científico, que pasó a observar y a observarse más en el espacio que en el tiempo, como ya había ocurrido anteriormente. En los últimos años, ha crecido enormemente el interés por el estudio de las creaciones artísticas, especialmente literarias, poniendo el foco en la simbología o la relevancia de los lugares. El crecimiento de disciplinas como las mencionadas puede ser percibido a través de su contacto con otras disciplinas emergentes, como las humanidades digitales, también de reciente aparición. La simbiosis entre ellas ha dado lugar a las humanidades espaciales o al deep mapping, entre otras. Sin embargo, más allá de las nuevas metodologías o procedimientos, internet y el desarrollo de la informática también han generado nuevos hábitats, nuevas espacialidades, que nos obligan a reformular el "nido" bachelardiano y el modo en que construimos identidades en el espacio. ¿Cómo han evolucionado estas teorías en los últimos años, qué ha cambiado en nuestra concepción del término o cómo vivimos o nos relacionamos con el territorio?

Desde la época de la Conquista y la colonización hasta nuestros días, los vínculos sociales han sido extremadamente intensos, complejos y conflictivos en Iberoamérica. Se puede explorar el lenguaje social de la solidaridad y de la desunión, así como la manera en que desde finales del siglo XIX las ciencias sociales y la psicología social oscilaron entre discursos, encuestas y conceptualización en un intento siempre renovado para dar cuenta de las especificidades, patologías y acomodaciones de sociedades cada vez más diversificadas. Como parte sustancial del vínculo social, la memoria colectiva puede estudiarse desde una perspectiva historiográfica que explore la diversidad de sus motivos y manifestaciones durante los últimos cinco siglos.

In the Atlantic World, 1400-1900
Since April 2015, the international team working on the project “African Ivories in the Atlantic World: a reassessment of Luso-African ivories” (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia: PTDC/EPH-PAT/1810/2014), composed of 27 researchers from the University of Lisbon, the University of Évora and the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, has been researching the trade, circulation and production of raw and carved African ivory in the Atlantic area from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The team has identified and listed objects from Portuguese and Brazilian (Minas Gerais) collections, also collecting references and descriptions extant in written Portuguese sources. For the first time a selection of ivory pieces was subjected to lab tests with a view to helping establish their age and origin. The project research team has submitted proposals for re-interpreting material culture in the framework of its African contexts of production.

Insularities and enclaves in colonial and post-colonial circumstances
Crossings, conflicts and identitarian constructions (15th - 21st centuries)
Historically, archipelagos were considered as rehearsal spaces for new social constructions. Since colonization and, afterwards, colonialism and imperialism, many of them evolved in association with the strengthening of international networks, while others did not escape isolation and forced unequal integration in different spaces. On the other hand, enclaves were the outcome of historical circumstances, often externally decided, which prompted some degree of insularity regarding the immediate geographical surroundings. When those territories did not become independent, there were demands for autonomy or, at least, some underlying emancipatory and anti-colonialist feelings. Even when these feelings did not mobilize relevant segments of the population, they disclose the alterity – above all cultural – in regard to sovereignty.

Herencia cultural y archivos de familia en los archipiélagos de la Macaronesia
En la última década, varias líneas de investigación en historia y archivística están lanzando sugerentes investigaciones acerca de la construcción de los archivos y de las fuentes históricas. Estas nuevas corrientes en el campo de la archivística histórica y la epistemología de la historia han planteado la revalorización de los archivos de familia, no sólo como repositorios de fuentes documentales alternativas a los archivos institucionales de la Iglesia y el Estado, sino también como objeto de estudio en sí mismos, debido al particular contexto de creación y transmisión del archivo familiar, construido al margen de los espacios formalizados del poder político-institucional de su tiempo. Esto hace de los archivos de familia un patrimonio común cuyo valor trasciende a la dimensión histórica y envuelve a toda la sociedad, pues resultan especialmente interesantes como expresión de identidades, memorias y discursos históricos plurales.

KISMIF Conference 2018 will be preceded by a Summer School entitled ‘What difference do DIY cultures make?’ (KISMIF Summer School 2018) on 3 July 2018 in Faculty of Arts and Humanities of University of Porto. The summer school will offer an opportunity for all interested persons, including those participating in the conference, to attend workshops led by specialists in these fields. Specifically, the Summer School offers thematic workshops expressly focused on the hands-on, music making, and place making of contemporary DIY cultures. Its approach will be methodological and focused on research for action.

KISMIF conference 2018
We are pleased to announce the fourth “Keep It Simple, Make It Fast!” (KISMIF) Conference which will take place in Porto, Portugal, between 3 July and 7 July 2018. This initiative follows the great success of the three past editions and brings together an international community of researchers focusing on underground music scenes and do-it-yourself culture. The 4th edition of KISMIF will focus on “Gender, differences, identities and DIY cultures”, directing its attention on gender issues relating to underground scenes and do it yourself (DIY) cultures, and their manifestation at local, translocal and virtual levels.

The Great War and the Azores: from naval strategy to trench warfare
This meeting aims to analyze the relationship of the Atlantic, with particular emphasis on the Azores, the complex logistical support to the belligerents, regardless of the stage of war being European or colonial, and the multiple dynamics involved, whether political, economic, ideological or geographical. Likewise, it seeks to value and dignify not only the memory of those who act as, but the material and immaterial heritage, in the year in which the bombing of the main Azorean city and the creation of a foreign naval base in its territory is evoked.

Féminismes et artivisme dans les Amériques (XXe-XXIe siècles)
Les féminismes contre-hégémoniques sont globalement peu connus en France. La théorie et l’action des femmes états-uniennes – connu sous le nom de black feminism – suscite certes un intérêt croissant chez les chercheur·e·s depuis la fin du XXe siècle. En revanche, les apports théoriques et les formes de mobilisation des autres régions américaines sont beaucoup moins visibilisés. Envisagé dans une perspective comparative et pluridisciplinaire, ce colloque voudrait approfondir la connaissance de ces mouvements en France. En s’attachant à la pluralité et à la force de leur action, la réflexion portera sur les caractères spécifiques et leur contribution à la lutte contre les oppressions de classe, de race, de genre et de sexualité. Une attention toute particulière sera portée à l’étude de la pluralité des mobilisations notamment celle qui envisage l’art comme forme de lutte.

Mondes ibériques (Europe, Amérique, Afrique, Asie) XIX-XXI
Élément constituant de la ville, la rue a beaucoup évolué au fil des siècles. Assurant la mise en relation des lieux, des fonctions et des groupes sociaux, elle est une forme urbaine qui a une configuration, une architecture, une histoire. Elle a ses logiques, ses dynamiques et ses usages. Ses pratiques et ses représentations sont liées à l’espace urbain dans lequel elle s’inscrit ; elles dépendent aussi de facteurs politiques et socio-économiques. Le « sens » de la rue pouvant donc varier considérablement, il est nécessaire d’aborder celle-ci sous l’angle d’un certain relativisme, en gardant présente à l’esprit la notion d’échelle. Ce colloque envisage la rue dans les mondes ibériques à travers ses dimensions fonctionnelles, socio-économiques, politiques et culturelles, au prisme des lieux et des éléments qui la composent, de ses acteurs et de ses créations. Quatre axes seront privilégiés : la « rue de l’urbaniste » ; Un espace socio-économique : lieu de passage et d’échanges ; Un espace symbolique : « ordre et désordres » ; Un espace de création artistique et langagière

L'Europe et la « Guerre froide » : mutations et ruptures
Cinquième rencontre annuelle « L'Europe et le Monde »
Au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l’Europe est en pleine décadence. Au cours de cette période difficile, la confrontation entre les deux Europes ne cesse de s’accroître. Face à l’expansionnisme soviétique, les pays d’Europe occidentale se tournent vers les États-Unis qui leurs octroient de l’aide économique et de la protection militaire. La reconstruction de l’Europe fait alors l’objet de débats houleux. Sous la pression des mouvements européanistes, les débats prennent de l’élan surtout à partir de 1948 dans le but de rebâtir l’Europe et la paix en Europe. L’atmosphère de « Guerre froide » est très présente depuis 1946.

The cross cutting conference theme, Environmental Changes in Historical Perspective, is inscribed in transnational and transdisciplinary approaches, a challenge to the current academic research and debate in environmental sciences and humanities.

III International Congress Karl Marx
The October Revolution of 1917 was one of the most significant events of the modern era. Its historical meaning can be understood, on the one hand, within the narrative of previous revolutions – starting with the 1789 French Revolution – and of the rise of the labour movement in the nineteenth-century. On the other hand, 1917 also paved the way to several other twentieth-century events and phenomena, such as the Chinese Revolution or the post-colonial turn. On its hundredth anniversary, the Institute for Contemporary History organizes an international conference dedicated to the study and discussion of the October Revolution and its consequences.

Socialismes africains | Socialismes en Afrique
Les temps sont venus de donner aux socialismes africains et/ou aux socialismes en Afrique la place qui leur revient dans l’historiographie générale du socialisme et dans celle de l’Afrique. Les histoires du, des socialismes, qu’ils soient ou non « réels » oublient systématiquement l’Afrique. Or il a existé en Afrique de très nombreux régimes qui se sont réclamés du socialisme « africain », ou « scientifique », de même que de très nombreux opposants qui ont d’autant plus cherché leur inspiration dans les outils théoriques construits par le marxisme – ou sa vulgate –, que celui-ci leur semblait proposer une théorie de l’histoire favorable à l’avenir des peuples colonisés ou anciennement colonisés.
