Revue « Horizontes Antropológicos »

La revue internationale Horizontes Antropológicos lance un appel à contribution pour son dossier thématique « Négritude et relations raciales ». Le concept de race, même repensé scientifiquement et compris comme une construction sociale et politique, demeure un défi académique, compte tenu de la façon dont sont vécues les relations raciales et de pouvoir et la manière dont cette question est inscrite à l’ordre du jour de la lutte contre le racisme. Ce dossier vise à rassembler des travaux récents et critiques qui repositionnent les sciences sociales quant au concept de race et à l’étude des relations raciales. Les travaux s’inscriront dans les débats sur l’intersectionnalité de genre, de race, de génération, de classe, sur l’invisibilité des relations raciales dans le champ scientifique et les expériences de racialisation à l’échelle globale.

Il a pour visée de repenser, dans une perspective transdisciplinaire, les cadres épistémologiques de l’analyse de l’image documentaire. Il réfléchira aux manières dont les films documentaires, maintenus dans une double marginalité, celle du documentaire et celle due au statut des femmes, ont agi comme des opérations d’intelligibilité du monde.

This meeting aims to analyze the relationship of the Atlantic, with particular emphasis on the Azores, the complex logistical support to the belligerents, regardless of the stage of war being European or colonial, and the multiple dynamics involved, whether political, economic, ideological or geographical. Likewise, it seeks to value and dignify not only the memory of those who act as, but the material and immaterial heritage, in the year in which the bombing of the main Azorean city and the creation of a foreign naval base in its territory is evoked.

Au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale, l’Europe est en pleine décadence. Au cours de cette période difficile, la confrontation entre les deux Europes ne cesse de s’accroître. Face à l’expansionnisme soviétique, les pays d’Europe occidentale se tournent vers les États-Unis qui leurs octroient de l’aide économique et de la protection militaire. La reconstruction de l’Europe fait alors l’objet de débats houleux. Sous la pression des mouvements européanistes, les débats prennent de l’élan surtout à partir de 1948 dans le but de rebâtir l’Europe et la paix en Europe. L’atmosphère de « Guerre froide » est très présente depuis 1946.

For this, it will focus on aspects such as new historiographical tendencies the wide range of sources available (literature, archives, letters...), sociology of the protagonists (clergy, nobility, lawyers, merchants...) and the different political contexts of medieval diplomacy (papacy, kingdoms, cities...).

Merchants, jurists and other "intermediate groups" in Early Modern Southern Europe

Merchants, farmers, jurists, clerks in large institutions, secretaries, independent landowners, local elites and highly sought master craftsmen, among many others, are individuals with an ambiguous social status. Looking at who was not born exactly noble, nor exactly commoner, but stood on the border between one world and the other, is one of the goals of this initiative. As part of a project developed in Portugal focusing on the Holy Office’s familiaturas, it will be held on September 16 and 17, 2015, a workshop at Escuela Española de Historia and Archaeological in Rome. Our aim is to select a total of 8 applicants, that will be joined by 4 guest speakers, for a joint reflection on the dynamics and profiles of ‘intermediate groups’, as well as on the methodologies for their study in Early Modern Times.

Revolution and cinema: the Portuguese example

In honour of the fortieth anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, this three-day international conference seeks to interrogate the cinematic representation of the political event from 1974 to today. Paul Ricœur states that “rethinking is a form that cancels temporal distance.” To rethink the revolution would then entail making the revolution present, making it come alive, bringing the past and the present together, questioning the effects of the passing of time on the images, the narratives and on cinema itself as an historical device. Today’s acute economic and political crisis in Portugal shakes the very foundations of April’s democracy, and this legacy could perhaps use the present as the inaugural strength of another history to come. Taking the cinema of revolution as a nodal point and as a major historical shift, which links – other than referential and chronological ones –, unify the pre- and post-revolutionary Portuguese cinemas? In other words, how can this idea of “revolution” remain, irrigate and illuminate Portuguese cinema?

This is a journal linked to the Europe Direct Information Centre of Aveiro, to Center for Interdisciplinary Studies of the Twentieth Century, University of Coimbra - CEIS20, in partnership with the Office of the European Parliament in Portugal and with the Representation of European Commission in Portugal. The first International Conference of the Journal Debating Europe will be dedicated to the study, analysis, debate on the political, economic, diplomatic, social and cultural transformations occurring within the European project.
