  Contemporary American Fiction in the Face of Technical Innovation

  Cette conférence se propose d'interroger les relations de la fiction américaine aux innovations qui ont marqué les premières décennies du XXI^e siècle : internet, médias sociaux, objets et environnements intelligents, intelligence artificielle, nanotechnologies, ingénierie génétique et autres biotechnologies, transhumanisme. Ces innovations techniques redéfinissent la manière dont nous habitons notre monde, interagissons les uns avec les autres et appréhendons l'humain dans son rapport de plus en plus étroit à la machine, non plus, comme autrefois, soigné ou réparé, mais désormais augmenté ou remplacé. Qu'en est-il alors de nos pratiques artistiques et culturelles ? Ces avancées récentes modifient-ils la langue et la littérature ?

  Biocosmos - Our sense of place, our sense of life in the universe

  Planet scientists and exoplanet astronomers are re-shaping our understanding of the universe, presenting a fascinating cosmos filled with places and destinations, not an empty void. At the same time, Earth physicists and biologists design models of self-sustainable ecosystems such as Biosphere 2 and the Mars/Lunar Greenhouse, with the goal of engineering bio-regenerative mini-worlds that can function on their own. As these scientific revolutions unfold, with distant spaces and global life systems as objects of “field work”, what counts as the “human environment”? How do we, as individuals and societies, relate to spaces, things, and processes we do not or cannot experience directly and which we see as “extreme” or “beyond” human?

  The Square : a Central Object for Thought

  The square of opposition is a very famous theme coming from Aristotelian logic dealing with the notions of opposition, negation, quantification and proposition. It has been continuously studied by people interested in logic, philosophy and Aristotle during two thousand years. Even Frege, one of the main founders of modern mathematical logic, used it. This congress is an interdisciplinary event gathering logicians, philosophers, mathematicians, semioticians, artists, cognitivists, and computer scientists.
