Les Cahiers d’études des cultures ibériques et latino-américaines (CECIL)
The problem of representation is central to the disciplinary fields of all the human and social sciences, most often implicitly. This omnipresence sometimes makes us forget that it is a notion whose definition, status and function are subject to the fluctuations of history. What interests us is the discrepancy between what this notion has been able to encompass over time and what it encompasses nowadays, as well as the explanation that can be given to these discrepancies or possible ruptures. The reflection focuses in particular on the link between the notion of representation and the notions of 'heritage' - tangible or intangible objects, but also products of a social construction - and of 'memory', since it is constructed through concrete representations, whether social or discursive practices.

From Republican exile to democratic transition: a historical appraisal
Les universités, les laboratoires de recherche et les enseignants-chercheurs réalisent depuis plusieurs années un travail d’histoire sur l’exil républicain. Un exil qui a marqué un tournant dans l’histoire de l’Espagne mais aussi des pays ayant accueilli des réfugiés politiques en 1939. Cette année de commémoration est l’occasion pour la recherche de faire le point sur l’enrichissement des connaissances ainsi que sur notre compréhension de l’événement et de ses implications sur le long terme, en Espagne comme ailleurs. L’exil républicain espagnol a été abordé et étudié par diverses disciplines et avec une intensité peu commune, depuis vingt ans, par l’histoire. Cette historiographie a un caractère international lié à la nature de l’événement qui est à la source de l’exil : la guerre d’Espagne (1936-1939).

Il prétend contribuer au courant actuel de rapprochement entre histoire du droit et histoire culturelle.

El Congreso nace de la relación y colaboración mutua entre Les Territoires de la Mémoire Liège y Territorios de la Memoria España, se enmarca en un espacio de trabajo dedicado al estudio de los totalitarismos, los derechos humanos, la democracia como valor fundamental, el concepto de ciudadanía, y la memoria como objeto de investigación, fundamentalmente en un ámbito europeo.

This conference intends to continue the tradition of the Hispanic-Dutch-Belgian meetings and will bring together a number of established and early-career researchers working in the field of the institutional history of the Habsburg Low Countries from the 16th to the 18th centuries. It aims to draw attention to a broad range of political, cultural, religious, legal, and military institutions by focusing on the enriching approaches that have shaped historical research on institutional history in the past few decades. At the same time, it hopes to bring into the limelight some exciting new (and often interdisciplinary) perspectives that characterize current research in the field.

Spanish syndicalism within the framework of international relations
The case of the General Workers Unions (1888-1986)
The emergence of a labour movement, of socialist obedience, more specifically, in Spain, goes hand in hand with internationalism. From its creation, in 1888, the General Union of Workers (UGT) has tried to incorporate the international labour movement. Thus, through time, UGT joined the main organizations such as the International Federation of Trade Unions, the World Federation of Trade Unions, the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions and the European Trade Union Confederation. The UGT also takes part in the work by the International Labour Organization and fosters relations with other foreign organisations. Finally, the UTG is involved with international solidarity groups and organisations dealing with social security like the Democratic Solidary organisation in Spain. To this day, few studies have been conducted on the importance of those links on the growth of the UGT, notably at some crucial moments of its existence such as the Francoist dictatorship and the transition towards democracy. These relations played a decisive part in the survival of socialist trade unions.

Ce séminaire multidisciplinaire organisé par le groupe «La imagen medieval: espacio, forma y contenido» et le projet MAD (Medieval Animal Data-Network) est conçu pour mettre en discussion les rôles et représentations – tant textuelles qu'iconographiques – des animaux au Moyen Âge à travers la présentation de quatre études de cas.

Iberian circulation on a global scale
À l’époque moderne, le Portugal et l’Espagne sont aux premières loges de la « première mondialisation » et les sujets des rois ibériques migrent et circulent vers d’autres continents emportant leur culture, leur religion, leurs goûts, leurs préjugés, leurs intérêts, leurs pratiques et représentations de l’altérité. Les travaux les plus récents s’écartent des approches à l’échelle nationale ou des schémas centre-périphéries pour mettre l’accent sur ce qui cimente l’empire et en fait un espace polycentrique : les circulations de toutes sortes donnent en effet corps aux monarchies planétaires de l’époque moderne. Le propos de ce dossier est donc d’analyser de manière plus précise les circulations qui relient les hommes et les espaces et font des monarchies de véritables constructions politiques, sociales et culturelles. Nous nous attacherons plus aux « circulations ordinaires », celles qui concernent l’ensemble des sujets des monarchies espagnoles et portugaises (et parfois leurs voisins).

Knowledge and power in the Iberian peninsula in the Middle Ages
Séminaire de recherche consacré à l’histoire culturelle de la péninsule Ibérique, chrétienne, islamique et juive du Moyen Âge. En 2013-2014, le séminaire poursuivra la recherche entamée sur la notion d’identité dans l’Espagne médiévale, sur la validité d’un tel concept, et sur l’existence d’une ou de plusieurs identités « hispaniques ». Ouvert à tous ceux qui s'intéressent à l'histoire de l'Espagne et du Portugal, le séminaire accueille aussi de nombreux spécialistes qui y font connaître leurs travaux.

La monarchie espagnole et les réseaux européens (XVIe–XVIIe siècles)
Cette journée d’étude est étroitement liée au programme de recherches actuel de CLEA (École doctorale de l'université Paris-Sorbonne (EA 4083)) et du Checla (Civilisation et histoire de l'Espagne classique) : Influences, confluences et transferts entre les territoires de la monarchie espagnole, aux XVI et XVIIe siècles. Elle garde les mêmes objectifs mais élargit la réflexion vers des territoires européens divers. Cette journée a pour ambition d’ouvrir un champ d’étude, qui sera au centre des recherches du CLEA / Checla dans les prochaines années, celui du rôle joué par l’Espagne et par sa complexe monarchie, dans la construction de l’Europe qui s’amorce en ces siècles.
