  African Ivories

  In the Atlantic World, 1400-1900

  Since April 2015, the international team working on the project “African Ivories in the Atlantic World: a reassessment of Luso-African ivories” (Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia: PTDC/EPH-PAT/1810/2014), composed of 27 researchers from the University of Lisbon, the University of Évora and the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil, has been researching the trade, circulation and production of raw and carved African ivory in the Atlantic area from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century. The team has identified and listed objects from Portuguese and Brazilian (Minas Gerais) collections, also collecting references and descriptions extant in written Portuguese sources. For the first time a selection of ivory pieces was subjected to lab tests with a view to helping establish their age and origin. The project research team has submitted proposals for re-interpreting material culture in the framework of its African contexts of production.

  Another Music in a Different Room

  Resulting from a series of developed works in the last decade within the framework of social sciences (namely Sociology of Culture, Sociology of Arts, Sociology of Youth, Urban Sociology and Sociology of Music), in this advanced seminar we will have the opportunity of deepening the understanding around the importance, functioning, process, the agents, characteristics, genres and subgenres of the current urban music scenes. The ANOTHER MUSIC IN A DIFFERENT ROOM will be a fruitful space for ideas, discussions and, therefore, for a great developments on scientific knowledge. So, it’s our intention to share all this scientific dynamic with the world in order to contribute to a larger debate on music, youth, lifestyles, culture, cultural scenes, music scenes. In this context, the ideas and discussions held in the Advanced Seminar, both by lecturers and participants, will be published in a Collaborative e-book.

  El problema de la metodología etnográfica y antropológica

  Revista Antropológicas

  La revista Antropológicas acepta propuestas de artículos para publicar en la próxima edición, que se centrará el problema de la metodología etnográfica y antropológica. Los trabajos deberán ser presentados en la página http://revistas.rcaap.pt/antropologicas/login hasta día 28 de febrero de 2013. El número 13 de la revista se centrará el problema de la metodología etnográfica y antropológica, porque desde la afirmación académica de su lugar de conocimiento, la practica etnográfica bien como la escritura antropológica tuvieron múltiples debates, tanto por la originalidad de su metodología, como por el rigor científico exigido a sus profesionales. Entre las demás ciencias sociales, la antropología fue la que, en la discusión teórica sobre su razón fundamental, mayor capacidad crítica exigió, al cuestionar sus bases metodológicas.
