  Postes de doctorant·e·s pour le projet de recherche “Gangs, Gangsters, and Ganglands: Towards a Global Comparative Ethnography” (GANGS)

  The project “Gangs, Gangsters, and Ganglands: Towards a Global Comparative Ethnography” (GANGS) aims to develop a systematic comparative investigation of global gang dynamics, to better understand why they emerge, how they evolve over time, whether they are associated with particular urban configurations, how and why individuals join gangs, and what impact this has on their potential futures. It draws on ethnographic research carried out in Nicaragua, South Africa, and France, adopting an explicitly tripartite focus on “Gangs”, “Gangsters”, and “Ganglands” in order to better explore the interplay between group, individual, and contextual factors. The first will consider the organisational dynamics of gangs, the second will focus on individual gang members and their trajectories before, during, and after their involvement in a gang, while the third will reflect on the contexts within which gangs emerge and evolve.

  Les dynamiques des catégories tourisme et migration concernant l’inclusion et l’exclusion socio-politique

  The main theme of this meeting will be to place anthropology front and center in the face of emergent contemporary conflicts, dilemmas, and possibilities. And our panel will explore the following questions: How do politically and socially constructed categories such as migration and tourism affect the mobility of people and what strategies are employed by persons to deal with, and challenge, these competing definitions of travel? How does the nation-state interfere with peoples’ habits of travel? What are the experiences of persons with travel categories and how is the interplay with other categories such as nationality, gender, ethnicity, age, or sexuality?

  The office as an interior (1880-1960)

  Au cours de la « deuxième révolution industrielle » augmente considérablement l’activité dans le tertiaire et se développent les services administratifs dans le secteur industriel et public. L’employé devient ainsi la figure sociale de la modernité urbaine, qui témoigne aussi du rôle croissant de la femme dans ce secteur professionnel. Le colloque The office as an interior (1880-1960) aborde l’essor du travail administratif entre 1880 et 1960 à travers l’analyse de l’émergence d´un espace nouveau, le bureau, qui par ses arrangements contribue à la diffusion de nouvelles formes de sociabilité et réalise des nouveaux modes d’organisation du travail.

  Un poste de post-doctorat de trois ans au département de sociologie, université de Genève (80%)

  Le/la post-doc que nous recrutons sur un poste à 80% participera durant 3 ans au projet financé par le fonds national Suisse de la recherche scientifique (dirigé par la prof. Mathilde Bourrier): « Organizing, Communicating, and Costing in Risk Governance: Learning Lessons from the H1N1 Pandemic ». Il/Elle travaillera plus particulièrement sur les deux composantes du projet portant sur les facteurs organisationnels et communicationnels de la gestion de la pandémie, en Suisse, aux États-Unis et au Japon. La personne recherchée a obtenu son doctorat en sociologie ou en anthropologie depuis moins de 3 ans, d'excellentes capacités à mener des terrains de recherche dans plusieurs pays, et d'un intérêt marqué pour les questions de santé globale (global health).

  Das Büro als Interieur (1880-1960)

  Die sog. «zweite industrielle Revolution» steht für ein signifikantes Wachstum des tertiären Sektors (Banken, Versicherungen etc.) ebenso entstehen sowohl in der Industrie wie in den Ämtern und Behörden neue Verwaltungseinrichtungen. Damit einher geht eine massive Erhöhung der Angestelltenzahlen. Der Angestellte wird zu der sozioprofessionellen Figur der urbanen Moderne, wobei der berufstätigen Frau zunehmende Bedeutung zukommt. Die Tagung beschäftigt sich mit der Entstehung des Büros, um die Wechselbeziehungen zwischen physischem und sozialem Raum, Materialität und Praktiken, Strategien und Taktiken, Strukturen und Individuen zu analysieren. Ebenso soll das Büro in eine historische Perspektive gerückt werden, soll das Augenmerk auf die Bedeutung des Büros für die Strukturierung und Transformation der soziokulturellen Gegebenheiten von der vorletzten Jahrhundertwende bis Ende der 1950er Jahre gerichtet werden.

  La société suisse d'ethnologie lance un appel à contribution pour son colloque annuel qui se tiendra les 2 et 3 Novembre 2012 à Lucerne, en Suisse. Le colloque s'organise autour de cinq panels "Revisiting anthropological perspectives on sustainable development"; "Towards an Anthropology of the Durative Present"; « Nation, nationalité, citoyenneté » ; « Contrôle et surveillance dans une société globalisée » et " The Future of New Institutional Economics in Anthropology".
