Encounters with Death: Macabre Imagery and Symbolism across the Arts, Texts, and Cultural Traditions
22nd International Congress of the Danses macabres d’Europe (DME)
The congress invites scholars to reflect on the representation of death in art, literature, and history from the Middle Ages to the present day. Taking the iconic theme of the Dance of Death as its starting point, contributions may explore both the iconographic and literary traditions associated with it, including the Encounter of the Three Living and the Three Dead, the Triumph of Death, the Ars moriendi, the Memento mori, the Vanitas, and eschatological themes connected with the Last Judgement. Papers may also address funerary monuments and monumental sepulchral art, including gisants, tombs, and cemeteries, as well as the social practices surrounding death, such as funeral rites, the commemoration of the dead, and obituary traditions.

Questioning the Profession: Architect and Planner Cooperatives
Revue « Clara » #12
CLARA is launching a new call for papers entitled "Questioning the Profession: Architect and Planner Cooperatives" for the 12th issue of the journal. In opposition to the glorification of the singular figure of the architect, the twentieth century saw the emergence of numerous initiatives seeking to invent new, more collective and interdisciplinary forms of practice. Cooperative associations from the global North and South sought to overcome individual authorship by linking design activities with political militancy and social engagement. By studying cases of architect and planner cooperatives from different countries and cultural contexts, this issue of Clara invites contributions which critically reflect on the political, social and disciplinary issues that favored the creation of these organizations, and how they were managed.

Digital Archiving in the Arab World (DA|AW)
The first-ever International Conference on Digital Archiving in the Arab World (DA|AW), held in Abu Dhabi in 2019, organized to spark off a series of conferences on the subject. Four years later, and following a global epidemic, it is time to reassemble for exploring and move ahead with the practises, experiences, and challenges of digital archiving in the Arab World. The inaugural colloquium/conference examined the issues of data preservation in the Arab world and eventually resulted in a publication release that continues to serve as a reference for researching the subject today (Bayoumi & Oliveau, 2020). At DAAW|2024, we aspire to address it through the more focused standpoint of the digital management and preservation of data and documents, without foregoing a broader reflection, concerning both historical and future documents and data in danger whether physical or natively digital.

Women on stage: From the backstage to the to limelight
Women in theatre until the 19th century
Since its origin, the History of Theatre has been built by male names. However, it is unthinkable that women have not also had an important role in this construction. Besides existing as characters, their contributions as performers, playwrights, composers, entrepreneurs, patrons, scenographers or costume designers, among a broad range of other functions, were fundamental to the development of the theatrical practice. This conference aims to recover the place of women in theatre since its origin until the 19th century, covering a wide variety of topics, which have women at their centre, either as the focus of a show or as marginal, as star or tertiary figure, as part of the audience or as producer of the cultural object. The conference aims to provide a comprehensive and transdisciplinary debate in order to rediscover the place of women in theatre in a global and historical approach.
