The question of plagiarism in university and academic production in Algeria
Cette rencontre voudrait susciter un débat autour d’une question d’une cruciale importance dans le monde universitaire et scientifique de par ses effets multidimensionnels qui recouvrent les pratiques de transgression à la fois les règles du droit et de l’éthique, les principes moraux et les codes élémentaires de la production du savoir.

Human rights and the culture of peace

Translation: Ethical or political perspective?
Translators work for the globalisation of commodities, patents and services; for the electronics industry, pharmaceuticals, biotechnologies, etc. - more than they work for the sake of the free movement of people. They perceptibly offer their services to whoever pays them, even if by so doing they might in some instances breach their own ethics. However, is there really a choice between a translation for the food industry and a translation for child protection? Between a translation for the aeronautics industry and a translation about the degraded environment? Between interpreting for the police officer who expels a foreigner and interpreting for a refugee, seeking asylum? Can we not be accessories of the dominant order, which represses its contradictions and tries more and more to control the various expressions, to subjugate, to domesticate? Can we do more than merely attend to subtitling films and television programs that are more and more standardised?

Translation tools at the dawn of the XXIst century: what are the prospects?
Translators nowadays have a variety of translation support tools that facilitate their task, helping them to optimize work and save time. Computer-aided translation (CAT), specialized databases, multilingual terminology, dictionaries, concordances, are all language industries that generated professions related to the job of translator, such as the neologist, the terminologist, the multilingual proofreader and the like. Furthermore, will the communication society looming on our horizon opt for one language, “Globish” for example (see "Talk Globish The planetary English of the third millennium" in John Paul Nerrière) or two or three languages to the detriment of all the others? Or, will linguistic diversity and the consequent need for translation prove to be inevitable? What is the position of the Arabic language amidst all that? The symposium will endeavour to provide answers to all these questions that may be evoked by translation activity, especially those linked to the future of the Arabic language.
