  Circulations in the global South: Ethnographic explorations of globalized exchanges

  APAD Conference

  After the Roskilde conference in 2018, devoted to mobility and migration, the Association for the Anthropology of Social Change and Development (APAD) proposes for its 2020 edition, co-organized with the Department of Anthropology and African Studies of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FSHS) of the University of Lomé (Togo), to focus on the multiple forms of large-scale circulation of goods, ideas, techniques, information and models that increasingly cross the global South and link it to the rest of the world. Panels or papers focusing on smaller-scale, regional or neighbouring countries' circulations, or showing the consequences of scale change in circulations, are also welcome.

  Discourse, pratices and tools used in the migration/development relationship: circulation, innovation and resistance to the South

  Panel - APAD conference 2020

  How do texts, practices and tools related to the “migration and development” debate circulate? This panel offers to analyse the processes of imposition, translation or hybridization, along with “travelling models”, and the appropriation or resistance experiences of the different categories of actors involved in migration/development governance. We examine the transnational circulation of texts and narratives that have become references for development practitioners in the Global South; the performativity of technical and managerial instruments, case models and “good practices”; the changes in the intermediaries and brokers categories.

  15th Association for the anthropology of social change and development (APAD) Conference

  The 2020 edition of the  Association for the anthropology of social change and development (APAD) conference will focus on the multiple forms of large-scale circulation of goods, ideas, techniques, information and models that increasingly cross the global South and link it to the rest of the world. Panels or papers focusing on smaller-scale, regional or neighbouring countries’ circulations, or showing the consequences of scale change in circulations, are also welcome. We also invite visual anthropologists and filmmakers to propose panels or submit films for public screenings.

  Habitat and sustainable urban development in Africa - issues for public policy

  Enjeux pour les politiques publiques

  L’objectif de l'ouvrage collectif à publier à l'issue du colloque est de proposer une analyse d’ensemble des défis de l’habitat sous ses dimensions économiques, sociales et environnementales en Afrique qui ont émergé ces dernières années, tout en les confrontant au rôle des politiques publiques (locales et nationales) sur ce sujet. Le colloque a pour ambition de réunir des chercheurs et praticiens issus de différentes disciplines (urbanisme, aménagement, gestion urbaine, économie, écologie urbaine, etc.) travaillant sur différentes régions géographiques de l’Afrique, en vue de permettre d’analyser les contextes de production de l’habitat dans une approche comparée.

  China in Africa - what agricultural cooperation for what food security?

  L'université de Lomé, en partenariat avec l'ambassade de Chine au Togo, organise, du 3 au 5 octobre à l'université de Lomé, un colloque international sur le thème : « La Chine en Afrique : quelle coopération agricole pour quelle sécurité alimentaire ? ». Il sera question de questionner le partenariat actuel dit gagnant-gagnant entre les pays africains et la Chine dans le domaine agricole pour en tirer les leçons qui s'imposent.

  Trade adaptation and urban dynamics: comparative North-South approaches

  Qu’il s’agisse de l’Afrique ou de l’Europe, les dynamiques urbaines ont été très importantes depuis une soixantaine d’années. Dynamiques tout d’abord spatiales. Dans ce schéma évolutif, l’activité commerciale a dû s’adapter à ces transformations de la ville. Sous l’action conjuguée d’une plus grande mobilité des consommateurs et de l’émergence d’un commerce de périphérie, l’appareil commercial s’est profondément transformé en une soixantaine d’années. Ces dynamiques commerciales interrogent les chercheurs en Géographie et en sciences humaines et sociales en général, sur les acteurs de ces changements, qu’ils soient détaillants ou grossistes, « petits » commerçants ou « grands » distributeurs, sur les formes spatiales qui surgissent dans les périphéries et les espaces périurbains sous équipés commercialement.
